Michigan AFL-CIO

Ron Bieber is President of the Michigan AFL-CIO. Ron has dedicated his entire career to fighting for working families. Ron is a third-generation UAW member, and the son of former UAW President Owen Bieber. Prior to his election as President of the Michigan AFL-CIO, he served as Director of the UAW’s Community Action Program, and before that, as Assistant Director of the UAW’s General Motors Department.

Bieber joined UAW Local 730 at age 18, after hiring into General Motors Metal Fabricating plant in Wyoming, Michigan. He currently lives in Grand Blanc with his wife, Patti. Ron is a member of UAW Local 659.

Our friend and ally Andy Vanderheuel, the National Organizing Director for the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) , needs us to tell Congress to co-sponsor the Wildfire Firefighter Hazard Pay Correction Act. The MDP Rural Caucus is honored and humbled to present the Rural Caucus Peggy Raddatz Volunteer of the Year Award to Peggy Raddatz.

This award was named for her because she works and lives by the values we hold dear.
We aim to build a community that believes; ▪️Every person has value
▪️We deserve to be represented and protected by our Government and its policies
▪️Our families deserve to be safe
▪️That seniors can live as long as they can in their homes, with their community, and with dignity
▪️Children have opportunities to learn and grow in skills regardless of where they live in the state
▪️We are stronger when we work together
▪️Rural voices should be heard and reflected in the decisions being made in Lansing and beyond.

Peggy exemplifies all of these values and so much more. She is not only our treasure on our Executive Board, but she serves on the boards of multiple county parties across the state.

We are proud to do the work along side her.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Betsy Rice. Her dedication to the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party and to IBEW Local 131 inspired so many of us to get more involved in local unions, local government, and our communities. Betsy's legacy will live on in our hearts and through our continued service to the people of Southwest Michigan.

Thank you, Betsy. You will be missed.
