The June 9 Beaver Borough Council packet is now available for public review. Please remember that all meeting minutes and reports remain draft documents until formally approved by Council.

One item of particular interest is the inclusion of Council's May 12 motion directing that the Chief of Police/Borough Manager not be required to submit the monthly time and activity reports I requested. These reports were intended to document how time is allocated between the Chief of Police and Borough Manager positions and to provide greater transparency and accountability to taxpayers. The motion passed despite my objection.

I remain concerned that Council's action interferes with the Mayor's statutory authority over the operation and supervision of the Police Department and raises important questions regarding the separation of responsibilities between Borough Council and the Mayor.

Also included is a proposal to hire a part-time police officer who would assist with code enforcement. I question whether this will significantly reduce overtime under the current labor agreement and believe the dual-role position may create chain-of-command concerns.

Finally, the packet includes the proposed signage ordinance update and the Planning Commission's draft Comprehensive Plan survey, providing residents an early look at important issues that may shape Beaver's future.

We are excited to announce that Beaver Borough has been awarded a $227,500 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) grant to support pedestrian safety improvements near our local schools.

The funding will be used to install upgraded illuminated pedestrian crossing signage at existing crosswalks near College Square Elementary School, Beaver Area Middle School/High School, and Saints Peter and Paul School.

These improvements will enhance visibility and help make some of our most traveled school-area crosswalks safer for students, families, and residents. We are looking forward to bringing these upgrades to our community and continuing our commitment to pedestrian safety throughout Beaver Borough.
