As we prepare the Aliquippa Seed to Supper Demonstration Garden for the upcoming garden tour, we are also striving for more instruction/observation/relaxation space. Here is our initial go at it, with hopes of ultimately using stone pavers surrounded by planter pots and a “little library.”

The Vicary Mansion gardens are being refreshed for the America 250 Beaver County celebration, with vibrant red, white, and blue annuals being planted throughout the historic grounds.

Our Beaver County Master Gardeners are leading the effort, adding patriotic color and beauty to this treasured site.

What stunning weather this week to be in the garden! Our small, but mighty team at the Senior Demo garden had a busy work night on Wednesday! Bed prep and maintenance, watering and planting of several herbs and vegetables in the main garden including Celery, Kale, Swiss chard, Eggplant, a fun sweet purple bell pepper variety called “Tequila.”

The team harvested French Breakfast radishes, Donato radishes, Pac choy and Tendita leaf lettuce with donations being delivered to Center for Hope in Ambridge.

The gardens at Old Economy Village are waking up for the season, and our team is hard at work preparing for the upcoming Garden Tour.

Raised beds are under construction, winter’s impact is being cleared away, and early weeding is already reshaping the beds. We’re also thinning herbs and perennials to make room for fresh plantings that will carry the gardens beautifully through the summer.

On Friday, more than 20 Master Gardeners gathered to plant the traffic islands at Route 18 and Broadhead Rd. The annual flowers selected are heat tolerant to survive the harsh conditions of the intersection, and this year are red, white, and blue to celebrate America250! We had fantastic weather and are so grateful for all the volunteers who worked, and for our sponsors who help make this garden and all our work possible. Thanks, all, including Janoski's Farm and Greenhouse for growing the plugs!

We are one week away from the annual plant sale! Join us Saturday May 9, 8:00am-1:00pm (or until sell-out) at 1000 3rd St. Beaver PA 15009. We have annual flowers and hanging baskets, vegetables and herbs, and oodles of perennials and natives. Come out and support the work of the Master Gardeners in Beaver County!
