Second Annual Chip Fest
Fire Fuel Mitigation Days
Organized by the Elk Meadows/Eagle Point Fire Council
Monday, September 26 -last day to RSVP for woodpile chipping, volunteering for chipping on Friday and BBQ on Saturday.
Please RSVP via text to Lorri Puchlik Via text or Facebook message. Include address of pile, whether you will be in attendance to help with chipping on Friday, and if you plan to attend the BBQ and number in your party for BBQ. Please comply with pile construction instructions below to ensure your pile is eligible for chipping. Property owners will be responsible for pile removal on their own if piles are non-compliant.
Wednesday, September 28- last day to have piles out for wood chipping at end of driveway or close to, but not on, the road for easy access to the chipper. See brochure for chipping guidelines and pile specifications. Chips will be left on site.
Thursday, September 29 - Chipping by Beaver County Fire Warden and his crew begins.
Friday, September 30 - Chipping by community volunteers
Meet at Elk Meadows Firehouse at 10 am for orientation. Bring work gloves, ear protection and safety glasses. Wear long sleeve shirts, long pants and closed toes shoes or boots. Extra safety gear will be available for those that don’t have it at orientation.
Saturday, October 1 - BBQ for property owners who put chip piles out and volunteers who fed the chippers and their families. BBQ starts at 1 pm at the Mt. Holly Village condos grassy area. In case of inclement weather, BBQ will be moved to the Elk Meadows Fire House. Please RSVP to Lorri Puchlik via text or Facebook messanger for number to attend BBQ. Please consider bringing a side dish or dessert to share if you wish. Burgers and fixings plus Dutch-oven potatoes will be provided by Beaver County Fire Warden, George Humphreys and helpers.
Guidelines for Constructing Piles for Chipping
1.) Limbs should be 1 ½ inches minimum to 4 inches maximum for small chippers, and 1 ½ inches to 14 inches maximum diameter and a minimum of 30 inches long. Logs should be a maximum of 8 inches in diameter and 10 ft. Long.
2.) Limbs should be placed with the butt (larger end) within 5 ft. and at a 90-degree angle to a good road or driveway.
3.) Stacked rows should be no more than 4 feet high and one row deep.
4.) Chips will be left in piles next to the road.
