A couple months ago, one of our firefighters approached me with a special request.

Noel wanted to make a memorable entrance for her senior prom. With an escorted ride in our Engine 66.

With some coordinated planning, Noel was able to have a rather special, bold and memorable prom entrance!

In over 30 years in the fire service, I've never had someone want to ride to prom in a firetruck. I'm glad I was able to help make your night wonderful.

A proud grandpa and fire chief!

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS Food Cupboard Update:

There is so much food left over from caring neighbors! There’s going to be a pre Thanksgiving food distribution at the Hornby Firehall on Monday, 11/24 from 4-6. We have lots of stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, canned veggies, to help fill out a Thanksgiving meal. As always, if you want to drop off donations, they’re welcome as well. The north door into the truck bay will be open and tables set up with food. We encourage anyone who’s struggling to feed their families, please let your neighbors help you.
The plan is to help with a pre Christmas distribution as well, the date is yet to be determined and will be announced soon. Hopefully, a regular monthly distribution day will be designated after the New Year. All of the food comes from neighbors who want to share their bounty.
If someone is in need of a food delivery, please call (607) 962-3856 and leave a message with your address and size of your household.
Thank you everyone for your generosity and participation in making this such an incredible success thus far.

This from Hornby’s very dear friend, Nancy McLaughlin. Reaching out to all for help to make this happen for our community:

Neighbor Helping Neighbor food cupboard, Shady Grove School, open on Thursday , 11/ 13, from 9-4, for drop off or pick up. Folks who have spare are invited to drop off non perishable items, place them in the cupboard, and folks in need can take a bag of food. Some families are expecting to make meals-in-a-bag, some may drop off staples- canned food, cereal, bread, etc. I honestly have no idea how this will be received, just feel compelled to do something during these especially hard times. Mike and I both work every week at the Corning Food Pantry and our numbers have doubled. This may be temporary. We’ll see how things go.

Doing what Hornby people have always done….NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS. Let’s make this happen!

We have some BIG news to share! Our standby generator has been installed and is now operational!

This will help us to serve the community during the inevitable power outages.

We will be able to provide:

Power for charging πŸ”Œ
Running water πŸ’§
An area to rest warmly πŸ›Œ
Refrigeration for medications πŸ’Š
Potentially other shelter services as deemed necessary 🏠

In the event of a power outage or other emergency, in which sheltering is needed, we will do our best to have the station open to the public.

We would like to thank the following for their assistance in making this happen:

Better Power Inc.
Clark's Enterprises
Rial Property Services

Although we do not wish to have to meet you all during an event like this, we are ready to help the community in the best ways we can!
