⭐️🚔 Officer Spotlight 🚔⭐️

This Officer Spotlight features Officer Ryan Borchardt. Officer Borchardt is currently a 3rd shift patrol officer and he has been with BDPD for 10 years. He has served in law enforcement for a total of 26 years.

Officer Borchardt attended Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac, where he studied Correctional Science, and later attended the law enforcement academy at Fox Valley Technical College.

Officer Borchardt wears many hats at BDPD. He serves as a fi****ms instructor and he is a member of the Emergency Response Team, the Bike Unit, Honor Guard, the Merit Committee and he also serves as a Field Training Officer.

Officer Borchardt enjoys working for BDPD because of the opportunity to help members of the community who are unable to help themselves.

Outside of work, Officer Borchardt enjoys watching sports and he is an avid outdoorsman.

Did you know electric dirt bikes are not classified as "e-bikes" and are NOT legal to operate in public thoroughfares in the city? These “Out-of-Class electric vehicles” exceed the definition of an e-bike. They do not have the necessary safety equipment or VIN, so they cannot be registered to be operated on the roadway. They are designed for off-road use, not on public thoroughfares.

For an e-bike to be legal it must have all the following:
1) Operable Pedals
2) A Motor of 750 Watts or Less Power
3) A Maximum Speed of 28 MPH

PLEASE NOTE: Simply adding pedals, driving at a slower speed, or purchasing the vehicle online as an “e-bike” does not change its legal classification - It’s how the vehicle is designed. That includes its performance capabilities and intended use. These electric dirt bikes meet the legal definition of an off-highway/off-road motorcycle. They are not e-bikes.

In the city of Beaver Dam, only true, legal “e-bikes” may be operated on the roadway, bike lanes or sidewalks. Other vehicles like electric dirt bikes for off-road use, simply are not allowed…

Press Release – Shooting Update from 5/30/2026

In the afternoon hours of June 4th, 2026, Officers and Detectives from the Beaver Dam Police Department, with the assistance of the Madison Police Department Violent Crimes Unit and SWAT team, served a search warrant in the 9500 block of Watts Road in the City of Verona.

During the contact, the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence. An 18-year-old Beaver Dam man was arrested in connection with the shooting incident which occurred in Beaver Dam on May 30th, 2026. He was transported to the Dodge County Jail with charges of Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, Felony Bail Jumping and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.

The incident remains under investigation.

The Beaver Dam Police Department would like to thank the Madison Police Department, their Violent Crimes Unit and SWAT team for their assistance in this investigation.

Tonight, Officer Reyna had his formal swearing in ceremony. After months of training, he has successfully completed the police academy and the field training program

He is currently assigned to 3rd shift as a patrol officer. We appreciate all of your hard work and we are happy to be working with you here at BDPD.

Press release

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, at approximately 12:53a.m., officers of the Beaver Dam Police Department responded to the 300 block of North Spring St. for the report of a male victim struck by gunfire. Officers on scene began initial emergency first aid of the victim until personnel of the Beaver Dam Fire Department arrived and took over care. The victim was transported to Marshfield Medical Center and later flighted to UW Hospital in Madison in serious but stable condition.

Witnesses reported the suspect was last seen fleeing the scene on foot. The scene was secured and processed by law enforcement until it was determined there was no other threat to the public. This incident is currently under investigation.

The Beaver Dam Police Department was assisted by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Beaver Dam Fire and EMS.
