You've probably heard this summer isn't looking too great for wildfire. With the outlook over the next few months showing above average potential for large fires, please do you part to prevent human-caused fires.

Roughly 70% of the fires in Oregon are sparked by humans, and a big chunk of that, unintentionally.

Check out the prevention section on our website to learn more and help protect what we love about our great state.

Do you call it a cookout, a grill, or a barbecue? No matter what you call it, safety is the name of the game!

Whether you are searing burgers or smoking ribs, keeping your family and your home safe is the most important part of the meal. Before you fire up, follow the tips below to keep your summer gatherings oops-free:

➡ Keep it outside: Only use your grill outdoors, at least 3 feet away from your home, deck railings, and tree branches.
➡ Safety first: Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from your grill.
➡ Check for leaks: Before your first use of the year, test your propane hose by applying a light soap and water solution. If you see bubbles, you have a leak.
➡ Safe Disposal: After you are finished grilling, allow the coals to completely cool before disposing of them. Always dispose of used coals in a metal container.

Open burning closes this Saturday. Please be sure to call the burn line before lighting your fire.

Open burning closes this Saturday. Please be sure to call the burn line before lighting your fire.

With incoming hot weather and continued dry conditions due to limited rain throughout the winter and spring, the Clackamas Fire District open burn season will close a few days early. The final day for open burning will be Friday, June 12.

🚫 Starting Saturday, June 13, open burn season is closed.

Clackamas Fire will continue to monitor fire conditions and will evaluate reopening open burning in the fall.

🚫 REMINDER: Do NOT call 911 to report illegal burning.

Please report illegal burning to DEQ, call 1-888-997-7888. If a burn pile is threatening life or property, call 911 immediately.

Please use caution this fire season and help prevent wildfires.

SUNDAY READ: What if the difference between a home that survives a wildfire and one that burns to the ground comes down to a few simple choices made years before the fire starts?

During a dramatic full-scale wildfire demonstration, one house was quickly consumed by flames while the structure right next to it remained standing.

The reason wasn't luck.

It was science.

This fascinating look at wildfire behavior reveals what researchers, firefighters, and homeowners are learning about defensible space, home hardening, and why a home's fate is often decided long before smoke appears on the horizon.
