BCVWD Earns American Heart Association Gold Tier Recognition for Employee Well-Being

Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District is proud to announce that we have received the 2026 Gold Tier Recognition from the American Heart Association's Well-being Works Better™ Scorecard program. This national recognition highlights the District's commitment to employee health, safety, wellness, and workplace preparedness.

The award reflects the District's ongoing investment in employee training, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and wellness initiatives. Recent efforts have included CPR and AED certification training, emergency preparedness exercises, safety training, and collaboration with local public safety partners.

"Employee safety and well-being are essential to maintaining reliable service to our community," said BCVWD Board Member, Daniel Slawson. "The Board has supported investments in training, preparedness, and workplace wellness because we recognize that a strong organization begins with healthy, supported employees."

National CPR & AED Awareness Week (June 1–7)

At Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District, safety is more than a workplace priority, it is a core value. From maintaining safe working conditions for our employees to supporting emergency preparedness and safety awareness, we are committed to helping create a safer community for everyone.

As part of that commitment, District employees recently participated in CPR and AED training to strengthen their ability to respond during emergencies both in the workplace and throughout the community. Investing in employee safety training helps ensure our team is prepared when every second counts.

Safety, however, extends beyond the workplace. During National CPR & AED Awareness Week, BCVWD is proud to support efforts that promote emergency preparedness and encourage community members to learn lifesaving skills that can make a critical difference when seconds matter most.

Each year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals in the United States. When cardiac arrest occurs, immediate action matters. A person's chance of survival decreases with every minute that passes without CPR or defibrillation, making bystander response a critical link in the chain of survival.

Fortunately, anyone can learn these skills. Whether it's Hands-Only CPR, becoming CPR certified, or learning how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), being prepared can help save the life of a family member, coworker, friend, or neighbor.

"Providing safe and reliable water service requires a strong commitment to safety at every level of our organization," said Lona Williams, BCVWD Board President. "That commitment extends beyond our facilities and into the community. By encouraging CPR and AED awareness, we hope to help residents gain the knowledge and confidence needed to respond when an emergency occurs."

During CPR & AED Awareness Week, we encourage our community to take a few moments to learn about CPR, locate nearby AEDs, and consider enrolling in a CPR/AED training course.

At Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District, safety is a top priority, not only in the work we do every day, but in how we prepare for the unexpected.

Recently, District staff participated in a Stop the Bleed® training, through the Desert Care Network, for a hands-on course that teaches critical, lifesaving techniques to control severe bleeding in an emergency. During the training, employees learned how to apply direct pressure, pack a wound, and use a tourniquet, skills that can make a life-saving difference before first responders arrive.

This type of training reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in our team, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to respond in emergency situations, both on the job and in the community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the instructors who led this important training on behalf of the American College of Surgeons’ Stop the Bleed program.

At BCVWD, we remain dedicated to fostering a culture of safety, preparedness, and care for one another.

Working Together to Protect Our Community

As wildfire preparedness remains top of mind in our region, BCVWD is proud to partner with the San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency on a project that strengthens emergency response capabilities.

Together, our agencies supported a heli-hydrant system connection, a critical tool that allows firefighting helicopters to quickly refill with water during wildfires, helping crews respond faster and more effectively.

This project highlights the importance of regional collaboration, combining resources and infrastructure to support both public safety and long-term water system improvements.

“Together, our agencies delivered a heli-hydrant system connection — an innovative public safety resource that allows firefighting helicopters to quickly refill with water during wildfires, improving response times and strengthening regional protection efforts,” said Director Andy Ramirez, BCVWD Board Member. “This project reflects what can be achieved through strong regional partnerships. By aligning resources and expertise, we are enhancing emergency response capabilities while investing in reliable infrastructure that will safeguard our community well into the future.”

At BCVWD, we remain committed to reliability, collaboration, and supporting the safety of the communities we serve.

Important Water Quality Update: Chromium-6 (Hexavalent Chromium)

Last month, Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District (BCVWD) mailed a required notification to customers regarding chromium-6 (also known as hexavalent chromium) in local groundwater.

This notice is part of state requirements to keep our community informed. While there is currently no enforceable federal standard for chromium-6, California has established a notification level to help water agencies share information with customers.

BCVWD wants to reassure our community that your water continues to meet all current state and federal drinking water standards. We continuously monitor water quality and are actively evaluating long-term solutions to address chromium-6 in our water supply.

Transparency is important to us, and we are committed to keeping our customers informed every step of the way.

Memorial Day 2026 – We Remember and Honor

Today, Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District pauses to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the enduring legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the courage and selflessness of those who gave their lives in service to our nation,” said Daniel Slawson, BCVWD Board Member. “We honor their sacrifice and remain deeply grateful for the freedoms they helped protect.”

As a small gesture of respect, our offices are closed today in observance of Memorial Day.
For water-related emergencies, please contact our 24-hour service line at (951) 845-9581, option 9.

While many will spend today with family and friends, we encourage our community to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this day and remember those who served and sacrificed for our country.

From all of us at BCVWD, we honor the fallen and extend our gratitude to their families.

What is a Stormwater Capture Barrel?

Have you ever thought about saving rainwater for later use? A stormwater capture barrel, often called a rain barrel, is a simple way to collect and store rainwater from your roof through your gutter system.

Instead of letting rainwater run off into the street, a barrel captures it so you can reuse it for outdoor watering, like plants, gardens, or landscaping. This helps reduce your overall water use, especially during the dry months when every drop counts.

Using a rain barrel can:
• Reduce outdoor water use
• Lower your water bill
• Help conserve local water supplies
• Decrease runoff and support a healthier environment

While rain in our region can be limited, even small storms can provide a helpful supply of water for your yard. It’s a simple step that can make a meaningful difference over time.

Investing in Reliability - Then and Now

Did you know parts of your water system have been serving the community for over 100 years?

BCVWD recently completed an important upgrade to the historic “A” Line along Oak Glen Road, originally constructed around the time of World War I. This critical pipeline continues to deliver reliable water from our Upper Well Field, one of the District’s most dependable water sources.

District staff installed a new pressure sustaining valve (PSV) and bypass to enhance overall system performance, improve pressure management, and support reliable water delivery throughout the area. This upgrade also helps address historically lower pressure conditions at the far northern end of the system.

Even more impressive, this project was designed and constructed entirely in-house by BCVWD staff, maximizing efficiency and making the most of existing infrastructure.

“Projects like this show how we are balancing the preservation of our historic infrastructure with smart, modern improvements,” said BCVWD Board President Lona Williams. “We are committed to investing in our system to ensure reliable water service for our community today and for generations to come.”

As we look ahead, the District is planning for future upgrades to continue this legacy of reliable service.
