Today the boat was taken out of the water for a long haul out. Shes staying at Bock Marine…. My first ever haul out without Sinbad.

The boat needs some desperate attention. Between rot spots, rigging work, varnish work, painting, delamination. This boat was begging to be taken out! Im thankful sinbad taught me the value of keeping the ship “ship shape”

I will probably keep her out of the water for this entire season. I can only work so fast and can only afford so much at a time…

Im lucky to have new crew aboard helping. As sinbad has taught me, now I pass the knowledge to others.

Wish my newest crew Angelo “Edward Jones” luck… with a name like that, he was bound to be a pirate!

Meka II is about to begin her life out of the water… Big things are coming…

June 9th 2025-

Today is the Meka II’s 58th birthday. On this very day in 1967 Captain Sinbad (my grandad) prematurely launched Meka II in the Detroit River. The boat had little to no interior, no mast, no sails, nothing. It was essentially a hull with an engine and that was about it. Sinbad would later finish Meka II up the river on a property owned by Great Lakes Steel Company. There he used their cranes and stepped the mast and make Meka II sea worthy.

Sinbad lived aboard Meka II for almost 58 years. This is the first Meka II anniversary without Sinbad.

Ahoy shipmates,

Due to recent events down at Gallant Channel Annex, I will have to start pulling funds from the go fund me… I didn’t want to touch it until my non profit was completely set up but I’m being forced off the docks in 30 days!

Currently have no power, no water, so everything I am doing is from the boat now. Using my outboard generator and using it sparingly. Some things really need to be fixed aboard Meka if I want to move so that is why I will be pulling some of the funds.

Things that need funds on Meka urgently-

Onboard generator currently doesn’t work, will need to be fixed before leaving dock.

Engine is running a little hot, will have to be looked at, but might need some funds for that.

And batteries NEED to be replaced! It’s been over several years now since they were replaced so it is definitely time…

I dont know how much I’ll need to pull out but the fund will still be up! So just because I’ve started pulling from it, doesn’t mean it’s over with!
