Please join the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department in celebrating being awarded the 2025 Fire Safe South Carolina Award for the second consecutive year.

The Fire Safe South Carolina Award recognizes fire departments across the state for their commitment to reducing fire-related injuries and fatalities through public education, community risk reduction, and quality data reporting.

We are especially proud that Volunteer Firefighter Derrick Washington accepted the award on behalf of the department. This year, Derrick celebrates 25 years of dedicated service with our organization and continues to play an active role in our public education and community outreach efforts.

This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our members, community partners, and residents as we work together to make Beaufort and Port Royal safer places.

🐥 SUNDAY SMILES 🐥

This afternoon, Engine Company 4—Firefighter/EMT Casey Peters, Firefighter/EMT Maeve McDonough, and Firefighter/EMT Peter Williams responded to a service call in the Shadow Moss subdivision.

Upon arrival, the crew discovered seven newborn ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain shortly after hatching this morning. Using teamwork with good samaritans in the neighborhood, firefighters safely rescued all seven ducklings and reunited them with their very relieved mother, who had been waiting nearby.

Be sure to watch the entire video to see Momma Duck’s excitement when she is reunited with her babies—it’s a heartwarming ending you won’t want to miss!

Great job, Engine Company 4, for going above and beyond to help all members of our community, big and small. 🦆 💛 🚒

Continuous learning leads to better outcomes.

Members from fire departments across Beaufort County and throughout South Carolina joined fire service professionals at the South Carolina Fire-Rescue Conference this week to learn and network.

Pictured below are members from Beaufort County fire departments attending The Safe Arrival Standard: Redefining Emergency Response Culture, instructed by our very own Deputy Chief of Operations, Peter Dontje.

Investing in our people means investing in the safety of our crews, strengthening our organizations, and enhancing the service we provide to the communities we proudly serve.

The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department and Parris Island Fire & Emergency Services had the opportunity to spend the morning with participants in Beaufort Memorial Hospital’s Rising Star Program.

The Rising Star Youth Volunteer Program is a two-week summer experience that introduces high school students to a variety of healthcare careers and provides valuable insight into the many opportunities available within the healthcare field.

Our firefighters enjoyed sharing their experiences in emergency services, discussing career pathways, and demonstrating how fire and EMS professionals work alongside healthcare partners to serve our community.

A special thank you to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for the invitation and for being such a valued community partner. We appreciate the opportunity to help inspire the next generation of healthcare and public safety professionals!

Quick thinking by Garbage Truck Driver and BJWSA employee!

Yesterday afternoon, the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department responded to a reported garbage truck fire at the Spanish Trace Apartments. Upon noticing smoke and fire within the load, the driver acted quickly and safely dumped the contents into a nearby parking lot, preventing the fire from extending to the garbage truck itself. Once the load was dumped, a BJWSA employee operating a vacuum truck nearby used water from the tank to put water on the fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene and fully extinguished the fire, preventing further damage.

We would like to commend the driver’s quick actions and the BJWSA employee which played a key role in preventing a more serious incident.
