Sheriff John Nyberg recently attended the Crystal Coast K9 Foundation program at Snappers Restaurant in Morehead City.

The Crystal Coast K9 Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting our K9 teams by helping provide funding for veterinary care, food, equipment, training, and other essential needs. Their support plays an important role in keeping our four-legged partners healthy, equipped, and ready to serve our community.

We appreciate the continued support of the Crystal Coast K9 Foundation and everyone who helps make this program possible!

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and to honor the courage and sacrifice shown in the hours, days, and years that followed.

We remember the innocent men, women, and children whose lives were taken. We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, military members, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others.

Twenty-five years later, the courage, unity and selflessness shown on that day remain a powerful reminder of who we are as Americans.

On behalf of the men and women of the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, I ask that you join us today in remembering those we lost, honoring those who answered the call, and keeping their families in our thoughts.

We will never forget.

— Sheriff John R. Nyberg

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, was honored with the 2026 N.C. Gang Association Award for a collaborative operation targeting a local street gang.

The investigation resulted in the seizure of more than 840 grams of fentanyl, 1,500 grams of methamphetamine, and approximately 17 fi****ms, along with 10 arrests. Federal convictions resulted in sentences totaling more than 114 years in federal prison for those involved in drug and fi***rm trafficking.

We are proud of the dedication, teamwork, and commitment demonstrated by everyone involved in this successful operation and grateful for the partnerships that help keep Carteret County safe.
