For November 9, 2022

Commonwealth Synopsis
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 11am this morning to 6pm EST this evening for very low humidity and dry fuels for most of eastern Kentucky. Expect southeast winds mostly less than 10 mph, with a few gusts between 10 and 15 mph. Minimum relative humidity will bottom out around 15 to 20 percent for most locations. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, and outdoor burning is highly discouraged.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

On Friday, tropical moisture will approach the region from the southeast, with the best chance of rain occurring east of I-65, with heavier totals expected along and east of I-75. After the rain exits Friday evening, much colder air arrives for the upcoming weekend with temperatures expected to fall 20-30 degrees.

NWS Jackson, KY
The combination of very low relative humidity, dry fuels, and southeast wind gusts between 10 and 15 mph at times, will bring an increased high risk of wildfires today. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged. High pressure will keep dry weather and above normal temperatures in place across the area through Thursday. Soaking rainfall can be expected Thursday night into Friday as moisture associated with Nicole moves in from the southeast. Following the rainfall, a much colder air mass will take hold for the weekend
