Tis’ the season of giving! In the spirit of Christmas, please consider giving a donation to Lee County Firehouse One, home of Lee County Volunteer Fire Department and Beattyville Volunteer Fire Department, so that we can continue our mission of giving back to the community we love. LCFD and BFD are 100% volunteer departments and, as such, funding is a constant struggle to ensure we can offer the finest protection to the citizens and visitors of Lee County. Just last Christmas, the alarm went off in the morning for a structure fire. Our men and women jumped into action, leaving their families to go out and serve and protect, successfully fighting the garage fire and saving the house (there were no injuries). Your donation will help us to be the best we can be so that we can keep this community safe as can be. A very Merry Christmas to all from our family of firefighters to yours!

Help support Lee County Firehouse One Co. by donating or sharing with your friends.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of FF Huffman. Please keep C**n Creek Fire and Rescue in your prayers during this difficult time.

Firefighter Line of Duty Death.

With regret, we announce the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Regina Huffman of C**n Creek Fire & Rescue in Wooten, Kentucky. (Wooten is in Leslie County, approximately 10 miles southwest of Hazard.)

At approximately 10:00 Saturday evening, Firefighters responded to an ATV accident with two people seriously injured. Helicopters were summoned for transport.

As the apparatus Firefighter Huffman was riding in left the scene to go to the landing zone, it slipped off the roadway, went down an embankment, and struck a house. Firefighter Huffman and another firefighter -- her oldest son -- were injured.

Firefighter Huffman died from her injuries a few hours later at a local hospital. Her son's injuries were minor. No other firefighters were injured.

Firefighter Huffman was 39 years old and is survived by her fiancee and six children.

Please keep the Huffman and C**n Creek fire families in your thoughts and prayers.
