As freezing temperatures and a potential hard freeze move into Fort Bend County this weekend, many residents may turn to space heaters to stay warm. While space heaters can help, they can also pose a serious fire risk if not used properly.

Please take a moment to review these important safety tips:

✔️ Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything flammable
✔️ Place heaters on a flat, level surface
✔️ Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet (not power strips or extension cords)
✔️ Never leave heaters unattended
✔️ Use models with automatic shut-off
✔️ Keep heaters away from children and pets

⚠️ A few simple precautions can help prevent fires and keep your family safe.

📢 Stay warm. Stay safe. Stay fire aware.
