The Beachwood Police Department is aware of a flyer circulating on social media and throughout the community promoting a so-called "takeover" event at Beachwood Place.

Let us be clear: behavior that threatens public safety, disrupts businesses, damages property, or intimidates visitors will not be tolerated. Our department is working closely with mall management and community partners to ensure a safe environment for shoppers, employees, and families.

This is not a Beachwood Place-sanctioned event, and the mall is private property. Anyone who chooses to engage in unlawful activity can expect an immediate and appropriate law enforcement response. We will utilize every available resource to maintain public safety and protect both our community and mall property. There will be zero tolerance for criminal activity. Individuals who violate the law will be arrested and held accountable for their actions.

If you come to Beachwood Place to shop, dine, work, or patronize its businesses, we will be there to support you. If you come to create disruption, engage in criminal behavior, or threaten the safety of others, we will be there as well, and you should expect to leave in handcuffs with a trespass notice, not with shopping bags.

We encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about making responsible decisions and remind everyone that public spaces and businesses are meant to be enjoyed safely and respectfully.

Beachwood Police Department Community Advisory
On Monday, June 8, at approximately 12:21 p.m., the Beachwood Police Department responded to a report of an individual experiencing a mental health crisis on Greenwich Lane. The individual was reported to be in possession of a firearm.

Out of an abundance of caution, officers temporarily closed the roadway and asked nearby residents to shelter in place while they worked to resolve the situation safely. Officers also used the department's drone technology to increase situational awareness and support public and officer safety.

Through communication with the individual and family members, officers were able to peacefully de-escalate the situation. The individual unloaded the firearm, exited the residence without incident, and was transported for evaluation and treatment.
The Beachwood Police Department appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents during this incident. We are grateful that the situation was resolved safely and without injury to the individual, responding officers, or community members.

Mental health crises can affect individuals and families from all walks of life. The Beachwood Police Department remains committed to responding to these situations with professionalism, compassion, and a focus on community safety.
