May 20th โ€” Marine Unit 50M1 Day ๐Ÿšค๐Ÿš’

Today we recognize Marine Unit 50M1, a vital asset in protecting our waterfront community and surrounding waterways.

Built by Lake Assault Boats in 2015, 50M1 is a 30-foot fire and rescue boat powered by twin Mercury 250 HP outboards and equipped with a 300 HP fire pump capable of delivering 1,500 gallons per minute. Its landing craft-style bow allows members to quickly load equipment and access shorelines during emergencies.

One of the greatest benefits of 50M1 is its ability to provide a constant water supply to areas where fire hydrants are not available, particularly in the rural sections of our district. The boat is also used for search and rescue operations, marine incidents, and mutual aid responses throughout Oyster Bay Harbor and the Long Island Sound.

Marine Unit 50M1 works closely with the Atlantic Steamer Fire Company, the United States Coast Guard, the Nassau County Police Department, and the Town of Oyster Bay Bay Constables to ensure a coordinated response to all water emergencies.

From fire suppression to rescue operations, 50M1 continues to be an invaluable resource for the Bayville Fire Company and the communities we serve.

Happy 50M1 Day.

May 19th โ€” A Quick Fact from Our History ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ“–

Mutual aid has always been a cornerstone of the Bayville Fire Companyโ€™s history. For decades, we have worked closely with neighboring departments throughout the Fifth Battalion and across Long Island, both giving and receiving assistance when communities need it most.

One of the most significant events in our history occurred during the powerful Norโ€™easter of 1992, when Bayville itself required help from 26 fire departments. The extraordinary response and dedication of our members earned the Bayville Fire Company a Unit Citation from the Nassau County Fire Commission for heroic efforts during the storm.

From assisting at the 1990 Avianca Airlines crash in Cove Neck to spending two days battling the 1995 Sunrise Fires in Suffolk County, mutual aid has remained an essential part of our commitment to protecting our community and supporting others in times of need.

May 18th โ€” A Quick Fact from Our History ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ“–

While there is no apparatus designated as 5018 in our fleet, May 18th gives us another opportunity to reflect on an important milestone in the history of the Bayville Fire Company.

In 1924, the Village of Bayville formally contracted with the Bayville Fire Company to provide fire protection. Water mains and fire hydrants were installed throughout the Village in 1925, greatly improving fire suppression capabilities. The Village of Centre Island joined our protection district in 1927, and the portion of Mill Neck we continue to serve today was added in 1965.

As the company grew, plans were developed for a new firehouse. In 1929, members and residents worked side by side to construct a wood-framed, Spanish-style firehouse with yellow stucco walls and a red tile roof. Completed on November 15, 1929, this building became the main section of our firehouse and remains a central part of our headquarters today.

Nearly a century later, that same partnership between our members and community continues to be the foundation of the Bayville Fire Company.

Happy May 18th.

May 17th โ€” A Quick Fact from Our History ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ“–

While there is no apparatus designated as 5017 in our fleet, May 17th gives us another opportunity to highlight an important chapter in the history of the Bayville Fire Company.

In the early days, company meetings were held in various stores throughout the Village, and the first apparatus and equipment were housed in two separate garages along Bayville Avenue. In 1923, the original members took matters into their own hands and personally supplied the labor to construct the companyโ€™s first firehouseโ€”a 24โ€™ x 32โ€™ wood-frame building built for approximately $800.

The firehouse was erected on what is now the corner of Jackson and Bayville Avenue, adjacent to our current headquarters, on property spanning 100 feet along Bayville Avenue that was purchased for $4,000.

More than a century later, the same spirit of dedication and volunteerism continues to define the Bayville Fire Company.

May 15th โ€” Fire Police 5015 Day ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš’

Today we recognize Fire Police 5015 and the dedicated members who help keep every emergency scene safe and organized.

Fire Police members are sworn Peace Officers under New York State law and play a critical role at emergency incidents. Using 5015, they secure the perimeter, establish road closures, and block and direct traffic to protect firefighters, EMS personnel, and the public.

From structure fires and motor vehicle accidents to parades and community events, Fire Police 5015 helps ensure operations run safely and efficiently.

Happy 5015 Day.

May 14th โ€” Deuce and a Half 5014 Day ๐Ÿš›๐ŸŒŠ

Today we recognize Deuce and a Half 5014, our specialty vehicle for high-water and severe weather responses.

Placed into service in December of last year, 5014 replaced our longtime 1979 AM General 6x6 โ€œ5-Tonโ€, which faithfully served the community for decades. Built to operate in flooded and challenging conditions, 5014 helps ensure we can continue to respond when other vehicles cannot.

We hope 5014 serves our community as long and as reliably as its predecessor.

May 13th โ€” Utility 5013 Day ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿšคโ„๏ธ

Today we recognize Utility 5013, a versatile support vehicle that serves multiple important roles for our company.

Placed into service in 2014, 5013 replaced a Ford F-250 and serves as the response vehicle to our fireboat at the docks. During the winter months, it is also equipped with a snow plow to help clear paths for our apparatus when responding to emergencies before local roads have been fully plowed.

Whether supporting marine operations or helping keep our fleet moving during snowstorms, Utility 5013 is always ready to assist.

Happy 5013 Day.

May 12th โ€” A Piece of Our History ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ“œ

While there is no apparatus designated as 5012 in our fleet, May 12th gives us the perfect opportunity to honor something even more importantโ€”where it all began.

The Bayville Fire Company was formed in 1922. Before a local fire company existed, fire protection for the Village of Bayville depended on neighboring departments from Glen Cove, Locust Valley, and Oyster Bay.

That changed after the Arlington Hotel was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours of November 1922. In response, approximately 50 young men circulated a petition throughout the village to establish a local fire company dedicated to protecting their own community.

From that moment forward, the foundation was laid for over a century of service, tradition, and dedication to Bayville and the surrounding communities.

Although there may not be a Truck 5012, today we celebrate the history and determination that built the Bayville Fire Company into what it is today.

Happy May 12th.
