The Baytown Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is actively monitoring the tropical system in the Gulf. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is forecasting a 70% chance of development with a potential landfall in Southeast Texas. This system will increase chances of rainfall and thunderstorms. Current precipitation models indicate 3-6 inches of rainfall in Baytown with the possibility of isolated areas in higher amounts that could lead to flash flooding. This system is not expected to be a high wind event for most of the region, but due to Baytown’s proximity to the coast, there is 35% chance of tropical force winds of 40-55 mph.

Residents are encouraged to prepare by securing loose outdoor and yard items, removing debris from gutters and drainage areas, and having an emergency kit ready. To stay weather-aware and informed, register for Baytown Alerts at www.baytown.org/alert.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter (FF) Jason Crouse on being recognized as the Baytown Chamber of Commerce's Firefighter of the Quarter!

FF Crouse has served with the Baytown Fire Department (BFD) for 13 years. In addition to his service with the City of Baytown, he also serves as a firefighter with the Freeport Fire Department and has served with Liberty and Pearland Fire departments. He also worked as a paramedic for a few years in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Throughout his tenure with BFD, FF Crouse has been an exemplary employee and a mentor to younger generations of firefighters. He has consistently demonstrated the pride, professionalism, and dedication that define the fire service. Over the course of his career, he has served on multiple specialized teams, including the USRT Dive Team and Hazmat Team.

FF Crouse has used his skills and training in many high stake’s situations, including: in-water operations during Hurricane Harvey, assisting local and state agencies with crime scene evidence collection and recoveries in local waterways, and responded to the Amazon airplane crash, where he assisted with the recovery of flight crew remains and plane debris. FF Crouse was also a member of the Joint Hazard Assessment Team (JHAT) for FIFA during the 2026 World Cup, where he provided Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) adjudication for fans and visitors. Last week, the Baytown Fire Training Field hosted our BFD Technical Rescue Team for a hands-on training exercise focused on high-angle and confined-space rescue.

The team simulated an injured patient trapped inside a sewer, utilizing one of the field’s high-angle/confined-space rescue props. Training like this helps our special teams to practice the skills, equipment, communication, and teamwork needed for these challenging incidents and ensure our Technical Rescue Team is prepared to respond when seconds matter.
