Heads up, drivers: Minnesota law on stopping for school buses has changed. You must now stop at least 20 feet from the bus whenever the red lights are flashing. The stop arm does not have to be extended. This update closes a loophole where drivers previously may have tried to “beat the arm” when passing a bus — a risky move that puts children in danger.

Slowing down, putting away distraction, and adding that extra caution will help make sure every child can travel to and from school safely.

When the lights start flashing, start slowing down and stop when the red come on.

Please support and pray for Washington County Sheriff's Office Deputy Majeski while he's undergoing this difficult time. Many of us have worked along side him for many years and he has dedicated his life to serving his community, as well as helping those in need in many different ways.

Many of you have been asking how you can support Deputy Chris Majeski and his family. We’re grateful to share that a limited number of support patches are still available for purchase at the Law Enforcement Center in Stillwater (15015 62nd Street N.).

Chris has shown up for this community in its toughest moments, serving with the Sheriff’s Office full-time since 2005, working various roles, partnering with K9 Jake, and volunteering as a firefighter in Scandia. In 2024, Chris was diagnosed with tonsil cancer, which has since become incurable. To know Chris is to know someone who leaves a lasting impact on everyone he meets. Thank you for continuing to lift up Chris, his loved ones, and our Sheriff’s Office family with your kindness and support.

This effort would not have been possible without the generosity of Fraternal Order of Police St Croix Valley Lodge #29, which funded the patches, and ITL Patch Co., who helped create them and donated additional patches. Below is a flyer with more details about purchasing the limited edition patches.
