Sharks Outlast Whippets in Overtime Thriller, 11-8
PRICHARD, Ala. — After waiting out the weather and battling through four quarters of hard-nosed football, the Alba Sharks found a way to leave Vigor High School with a victory Thursday night over the Mobile County Training Whippets 11-8. Once the game finally got underway, Mobile County Training School took the opening possession down the field and scored on its first series, adding the conversion to grab an early 8-0 lead. The Sharks' defense settled in after the early score and kept Alba within striking distance. That defensive effort paid off in the second quarter when the Sharks forced a safety putting Alba's first points on the board and cutting the deficit to 8-2 before halftime.
Neither team was able to find the end zone again until the fourth quarter when the Sharks finally broke through. Mike Bradden provided the biggest offensive play of the night, breaking loose for a 40-yard touchdown run that tied the game at 8-8. A 27-yard field goal by MJ Ortega in overtime lifted the Sharks to an 11-8 victory over the Mobile County Training School Whippets. The Sharks improve to 2-1 heading into homecoming week against Calloway-Smith on Thursday September 17th @ 4pm at Alba Middle School.
