EDIT 11:15 a.m. Update from Bayou La Batre Interim Fire Chief Lee: crews from repair companies have successfully capped the gas leak. Highway 188 at Argyle has been cleared and is reopened.
9 45 a.m., Monday, September 7, 2026.
Highway 188 & Argyle Road in Irvington is currently blocked due to a gas leak. Please make alternate plans to avoid this area. The estimated repair time is unknown.

The Bayou La Batre City Docks Project has been under construction for one year. The anticipated opening date is August 2027.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has released information about the upcoming 2026 Alabama Oyster Community Meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the Bayou La Batre Community Center. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m.

Important dates for the 2026 Fall Soccer Season!
* Registration begins Monday, August 24, 2026 at 5 p.m.
* Registration ends Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10 p.m.
* Evaluations are on Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Evaluations begin at 6 p.m.
* The soccer draft will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
* Soccer practice begins Monday, October 5, 2026
* The first soccer games will be played on Saturday, October 24, 2026
* The final soccer games will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2026
*Parent meeting: Date and time will be announced soon.

A main water line has broken on Deakle Road in Irvington. Personnel from the Utilities Board of the City of Bayou La Batre are on site to repair the line. Please note that residents in that area currently have no water. The expected repair time is 4 to 6 hours, but it may be completed sooner if no further problems arise. If you are currently without water due to this main line break, please run the water lines inside your home (faucets, showers, sinks) until water runs clear. If you need further information, please call The Bayou La Batre Utilities Board at 251-824-2172.
