Division of Recreation to raise the flag representing the different aspects of disability, the Disabilities Pride Flag, at the Field of Dreams, this Saturday!

The Disability Pride Flag is a symbol of unity, identity, and pride within the global disability community. This version of the flag, created in 2021 by disabled advocate Ann Magill, who has cerebral palsy, features a charcoal gray background with five muted diagonal stripes—each representing a different aspect of disability.

🌟 Each color stripe has a meaning:

❤️ Red - physical disabilities

💛 Gold - neurodiversity

🤍 White - invisible disabilities and disabilities that haven't yet been diagnosed

💙 Blue - emotional and psychiatric disabilities, including mental illness, anxiety, and depression

💚 Green - for sensory disabilities, including deafness, blindness, lack of smell, lack of taste, audio processing disorder, and all other sensory disabilities

"Flags can raise awareness and are a symbol of solidarity, pride and acceptance, and we are going to raise and fly the Disabilities Pride Flag at our Field of Dreams, to show solidarity, pride and acceptance here in Bayonne and within our community." stated Pete Amadeo, Superintendent of Recreation

⏰ The flag will be raised after the 2nd game of Buddy Baseball, at 12:00pm.

⚾️ The Field of Dreams is located at 11th Street & Avenue E.

For more information, please contact the Division of Recreation at 201-858-6127 or email [email protected].
