With the current dry conditions and high winds, it is very easy for a burn previously thought to be extinguished to flare back up. This is why we are not currently issuing burn permits for burn piles.

Nebraska Forest Service staff is en route, responding to two fires happening now in Harrison (pictured here) and in Valentine. Much of western and central Nebraska remain in “very high” fire danger. The members of the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department give countless hours responding to emergencies, serving our community, and training to provide the best care possible. Behind every responder is a family making sacrifices too — holding down the fort at home, missing holidays, dinners, and time together so their loved one can answer the call.
Now it’s our turn as a department and community to support one of our own.
The Bronson family is currently facing a difficult medical battle, and we want to come together to help lighten the burden during this challenging time. To support the family, we are raffling off a Traeger Grill, with all proceeds going directly to benefit the Bronson family.

Due to the severity of current conditions, the expected forecast, and the severity and frequency of fires this week, no burn permits will be issued for Bayard (District 3) until further notice. Current burn permits are also null and void. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and will announce if this changes. If conditions do not improve significantly, burn permits may be suspended for a very long period of time. Thank you
