City of Bay Village

City of Bay Village The City of Bay Village is a beautiful lakefront community with just over 16,000 residents. Bayway Cabin is home to the Recreation Department.

Bay Village was first settled by Joseph Cahoon in 1810 as part of the original Dover Township. The Cahoon family barn built in 1882 was converted to a community center and is still in use today as our Community House. In 1917, the last Cahoon descendant died leaving the family home and 115 acres of land to the City. The home is now the Rose Hill Museum and the land is now the Cahoon Memorial Park.

John Huntington, one of the original partners in the Standard Oil Company, donated his summer estate to the Cleveland Metroparks. This park area in the center of town houses the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, the Huntington Playhouse, BAYarts Vento Tratoria and Huntington Beach. The combination of these two park lands located in the center of town provide residents with an abundance of recreational opportunities year round and give Bay Village a truly unique quality of life. Bay Township split from Dover Township in 1901, becoming the Hamlet of Bay. In 1903, the Village of Bay was incorporated and the first Mayor and Council were elected. The original City Hall was built in 1914 and has since had two additions. Bay Village became a City on January 1, 1950 having reached a population of 6,917 residents. The Mayor and Council now serve a population of over 15,000 residents. Our City campus is made up of City Hall, home to the offices of the Mayor, the Law, Finance, Building, Planning and Engineering Departments as well as the Clerk of Council. The Dwyer Memorial Senior Center houses the Department of Community Services as well as all senior programs. The City campus is rounded out with a state of the art playground, ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and an aquatic facility. The Fire and Police Stations are located on Wolf Road just a few blocks from City Hall. Our Service Department is housed at 31300 Naigle Road.

Big Boy No. 4014 to travel through Bay Village and Northeast Ohio TODAY as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

25 Big Boy engines were built during World War II - designed to haul heavy freight over the steep grades of the Wasatch Mountains between Utah and Wyoming - eight survive today and only No. 4014 is still in operation. The Big Boy No. 4014, which spans 132 feet in length and weighs roughly 1.2 million pounds, is the largest operating steam locomotive in the world.

View the Union Pacific’s published schedule at https://www.up.com/about-us/history/steam/schedule (schedule subject to change, the Big Boy may operate ahead or behind the posted schedule).

Grand and Glorious Tree Program

While the national Arbor Day is in April, the City of Bay Village strategically hosts its celebration in the fall (during the month of October) to coincide with the optimal autumn planting season in Northeast Ohio.

To celebrate National Arbor Day on April 24, 2026, nominations have been opened for this year's Grand and Glorious Tree Program. The goal of this program is to engage the community in identifying and celebrating exceptional specimen trees throughout the city, while raising awareness of the importance of protecting, maintaining, and strengthening our urban tree canopy.

Submissions will be reviewed and a gallery of the trees will be posted for residents to vote on their favorite. The winner will be recognized by the city during their fall Arbor Day celebration.

Nominate a Grand and Glorious Tree in Bay Village today!

Bay Village has opened nominations for this year’s Grand and Glorious Tree Program, which recognizes unusual and attractive trees.

An Update on Our Natural Gas Aggregation Program

The City of Bay Village remains dedicated to securing reliable, cost-effective energy solutions for our residents and business owners. We are pleased to announce that the City has finalized a new agreement for our voter-approved natural gas aggregation program, securing a fixed rate of $0.729/CCF with Direct Energy, effective from July 2026 through July 2030.

We have negotiated this rate to provide our community with peace of mind, protecting your household from the monthly market fluctuations often seen in standard utility pricing.

Important Details:

• Automatic Enrollment: Currently enrolled customers are automatically included in this program. You do not need to take any action to secure this aggregation pricing.

• Flexibility: We respect that every resident has different needs. Participation is entirely voluntary. If you prefer to opt out, please return the opt-out form that was mailed to you (postmarked by June 18, 2026) or call 1-866-968-8065.

• Carbon Neutral Option: For those interested in environmental sustainability, we are also making a Carbon Neutral product available at $0.7825/CCF. This product offsets carbon emissions associated with your natural gas use. To opt in, contact Direct Energy Customer Care at 1-866-968-8065.

What to expect: Your relationship with Columbia Gas remains unchanged. They will continue to maintain our infrastructure and provide your monthly billing. You will simply see "Direct Energy" listed under the supply portion of your statement.

Customers can verify their supplier on the "Supplier Charges" section of their most recent Columbia Gas of Ohio bill.

If you have questions, our team is here to assist.

As weather permits, contractor Karvo Companies, Inc. will begin road repair work the week of May 11, completing all sections of work in Bay Village within a few days.

The map highlights areas of work for 2026.

Please note:

- Do not park on the street in front of your house during road repairs.
- Traffic will be maintained throughout the work; delays are possible.
- To avoid damage to your vehicle or tracking material into your driveway, please do not drive through fresh asphalt or tar; it is difficult to remove. Traffic will be maintained and the contractor will advise when the pavement is ready for vehicle traffic; typically within a few minutes after being rolled and compacted.
- Asphalt is placed at very high temperatures, please do not allow pets and children near the new asphalt until several hours after it has been rolled, open to traffic and had sufficient time to cool.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as this important road repair work is completed.
