For information about how to join click the learn more tab! Bay Shore Fire Department was formed in 1891 and is currently made up of 5 companies and 140 active duty firefighters. The department is lead by 1 Chief, 2 Asst. Chiefs, 5 Captains, and 10 Lieutenants. BSFD protects the communities of Bay Shore and the Village of Brightwaters with 5 engines, 2 ladders, 1 heavy rescue, 1 dive/ice team, 1 b

oat, and 3 fire patrol/police units. Department Headquarters in staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a dispatcher located at 195 5th Ave in Bay Shore.

This afternoon, the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to an animal assist on Sunrise Highway, where a seagull had become entangled in electrical wires.

At the request of the Suffolk County Police Department, our aerial ladder responded and members swiftly went into action, removing the entangled bird and safely handing it over to wildlife rehab professionals.

Units operated under the command of 1st assistant chief Nick Danza.

Earlier today the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with overturn on Brentwood Rd & Nevada Ave in Bay Shore. On scene mins after activation was Chief of Department Ippolito who confirmed there was a trapped driver inside the overturned automobile. All 3 Bay Shore FD Chiefs along with the crews of Squad Engine 3-1-5 and Rescue 3-1-8 put the HURST Jaws Of Life into action to free the trapped driver. EMS crews from Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Inc. started treatment of the trapped driver while Bay Shore FD FESS members worked on removing the driver. After approx. 10 mins the driver we freed from the vehicle and removed by EMS to an area hospital for further care. The scene was turned over to SCPD 3rd Precinct for further action and investigation. All Bay Shore FD units were under the command of Chief of Department Ippolito. This evening, the Bay Shore Fire Department, along with the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance company and New York State Police, responded to a motor vehicle accident, reporting a vehicle into the woods.

Units arrived to find one occupant of the vehicle with serious injuries and the operator with minor injuries, after the vehicle slid off the roadway, colliding with a tree, and finally stopping just short of another tree in some bushes.

Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital. Incidents like this are a constant reminder that especially in any type of rainy or wet weather, to always slow down and drive with extra care.

This afternoon the Bay Shore FD was requested as an additional truck company for a working fire on Nikita Dr. in Islip. Bay Shore FD L 3-1-7 along with Chief of Department 3-1-30 and 2nd Asst. Chief 3-1-32 responded and were assigned task by Islip FD Asst. Chief Farrell upon arrival. Islip FD crew found heavy fire showing on scene and made a quick knock down of the fire. Bay Shore FD units assisted in overhaul and checking adjoining units for extensions. On behalf of the members of the Bay Shore Fire Department, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Bay Shore for your incredible support and patience during the 2026 Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Parade.

Because of your cooperation, enthusiasm, and community spirit, we were able to proudly welcome fire departments from across Suffolk County and showcase the very best of our hometown. The overwhelming support along the parade route and throughout the weekend made this event a tremendous success.

Hosting an event of this magnitude would not have been possible without the understanding of our local businesses, the patience of our residents during road closures, and the countless volunteers and public safety partners who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

Bay Shore has always been a community that stands behind its firefighters, and this weekend was another reminder of what makes our town so special.

Thank you for helping make the 2026 Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Parade an unforgettable success. We are proud to serve such an outstanding community.

Yesterday the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the Penataquit Point section of Bay Shore. On the road quickly were Chief of Department Ippolito and 2nd Asst. Chief Voges who were advised by Bay Shore FD Dispatcher that they were multiple calls taken on the fire and also a possible occupant unaccounted for. Chief Ippolito was first on scene and transmitted the working fire. While the Chiefs geared up, Bay Shore Penataquit Hose Co. #1 E 3-1-3 was on the way ( 3 mins after activation ). After a quick size up of the scene and determining that all occupant were accounted for Chief Ippolito gave orders to the incoming units. Upon arrival of E 3-1-3 the crew quickly and efficiently stretched an attack line and began making the push on the fire. With the assistance of additional units on scene crew were able to safely remove 3 cats and stop the spread of the fire. Bay Shore FD responded with 3 engines, 1 ladder, and fire police. Mutual aid was provided by Islip Fire Department West Islip Fire Department East Islip FD Babylon Fire Department Lindenhurst Fire Department Islip Terrace FD West Sayville Fire Department. During operations 1 firefighter suffered a minor burn and was treat by Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Inc. and transported by Exchange Ambulance of the Islips to Stony Brook Burn Center. The Bay Shore Fire Department is proud to welcome volunteer firefighters from across Suffolk County as we host the 2026 Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Parade on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Beginning at 5:30 PM, fire departments from throughout the county will proudly march down Main Street in Bay Shore, concluding at the Great South Bay YMCA.

⚠️ Please be advised: Expect road closures, traffic delays, and a heavy fire department presence throughout the downtown area between 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM. We encourage everyone to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
Come out, line Main Street, and help us honor the dedication, tradition, and service of Suffolk County’s volunteer firefighters. We look forward to celebrating with our community!
