The City of Bay St. Louis is currently accepting applications for the equipment operator position in the utility department.
Position Summary: The Utilities Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water, sewer, and storm water utility systems. This includes excavation, grading, and installation of utility infrastructure. The operator ensures safe, and effective use of machinery, to support utility field operations.
Essential Duties, and Responsibilities: operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, skid steers, and dump trucks, Excavate trenches for water, sewer, and gas line installation, or repair, while avoiding damage to existing utilities, Load, and transport construction materials, debris, and equipment, Conduct pre- and post operation inspections; maintain equipment in clean, and serviceable condition, Perform minor equipment maintenance, and report mechanical issues, Read, and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and work orders, Set up and maintain safe work zones, including traffic control, and signage, Respond to Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks outdoors, in various weather conditions, Ability to work a regular schedule Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, with a 30 minute lunch break from 11 am to 11:30am,
required to be part of the on- call rotation, and to be on emergency callouts including nights, and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of trenching, excavation, and construction safety practices, Experience in underground utility installations and repair, Competency in reading utility plans and construction drawings, Knowledge of MS. Utility Safety Standards, Experience with basic plumbing, or mechanical repair, Basic knowledge of hand, and power tools, Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments, which includes exposure to dust, mud, loud noise, traffic, heavy equipment, and hazardous materials,
