Bay Minette Fire Department Swiftly Responds to Weekend Apartment Fire
BAY MINETTE, Ala. -- On Saturday August 29, 2026, at 4:05 pm, the Bay Minette Fire Department (BMFD) was dispatched to Cottage Park Apartments on Rabun Road in response to the report of an apartment fire with visible flames and heavy smoke.
Two BMFD engines, a BMFD ladder truck, and BMFD Chief Mike Minchew arrived on scene within seven minutes of the call. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and flames at the rear of a two-story structure. Firefighters from the first engine immediately entered the building and searched the three affected apartments to confirm all units were clear. Firefighters from the second engine initiated fire attack operations at the rear of the structure. The fire was contained and extinguished within ten minutes of BMFD’s arrival. Units remained on scene to check for hot spots and remove smoke from nearby apartments.
Chief Minchew expressed appreciation for the support received during the incident, stating, “We would like to thank Pine Grove Fire department for moving a fire truck and crew to our station to cover the area while Bay Minette crews were on the fire call.”
There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. Two apartment units sustained smoke and heat damage, while a third apartment experienced smoke damage only. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
