🌧️🚧 Baldwin County Completes Surfside Drive Drainage Improvements Project

As we prepare for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, the Baldwin County Commission is proud to announce the completion of the Surfside Drive Drainage Improvements Project in the Fort Morgan area.

This $2.7 million ARPA-funded project enhances community resilience by reducing flooding, improving stormwater flow, and better protecting homes and roadways during major rain events. The project includes approximately 5,500 feet of new drainage infrastructure, providing a positive outfall that moves water away from low-lying areas more efficiently.

For years, residents near Surfside Drive have faced prolonged flooding after hurricanes and severe storms, often limiting access to homes and emergency services. This new system is designed to speed up the recession of floodwaters, restore access sooner after major weather events, and reduce the likelihood of recurring flooding issues.

The Baldwin County Commission remains committed to investing in infrastructure that safeguards residents, strengthens community resilience, and supports a higher quality of life across the county.

🚦 Baldwin County residents, your voice matters!

We're working to make our roads safer for everyone, whether you walk, bike, ride transit, or drive. Through the County's new Safety Action Plan, we're identifying traffic safety concerns and developing projects and policy solutions to create safer streets and roadways across Baldwin County.

This important initiative is funded through a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant awarded to the County.

Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and experiences by completing the community survey at baldwinsafestreets.org .

Your feedback will help shape the future of transportation safety in Baldwin County.

Discover Baldwin. Discover Byrnes Lake.

Did you know? Byrnes Lake once played a brief Hollywood role, it was quietly used as a filming location for a Friday the 13th movie back in the 1980s. Most locals didn’t even know a film crew was there at the time!

Today, Byrnes Lake is best known not for movies, but for its peaceful setting and beautiful water views, a perfect place to explore and unwind in Baldwin County.

We hope you’re able to enjoy Byrnes Lake, just one of the many beautiful Baldwin County parks waiting for you to explore.
