Last night, members of the Bay Head Fire Department participated in simulated vent-enter-search (VES) training and second-floor victim rescue operations on Bridge Avenue.

Thanks to a gracious property owner, our department was given the opportunity to train in two homes scheduled for demolition. Members worked through multiple scenarios involving hoseline advancement, ladder placement, victim removal, window removal, and coordinated fireground operations.

This type of hands-on training is invaluable and helps prepare our members for real-world emergencies while sharpening critical firefighting skills.

Residents may see the department operating on Bridge Avenue a few more times over the coming weeks as we continue to conduct additional training scenarios.

The fire department will be training in the 100 block of Bridge Avenue tonight. There is no emergency.

BAY HEAD’S BRAVEST TRAIN WITH THE BEST

Five members of the Bay Head Fire Company spent a day training on Randall’s Island at the FDNY Fire Academy alongside members of the Fire Department of the City of New York.

This annual training opportunity is made possible by the Leary Firefighters Foundation, established by Dennis Leary following the line-of-duty death of his cousin, a firefighter in Worcester.

The Bay Head crew participated in an intensive series of hands-on drills, including rope rescue, rappelling, auto extrication, victim searches, and operating in heavy smoke and fire conditions.

Participating members included Lieutenant Brian Williams, Firefighter Connor Feehan, Assistant Chief J. Applegate, Firefighter Jess Gaestel, and Firefighter Courtland Hackel.

The Bay Head Fire Department would like to proudly congratulate our probationary members—now firefighters—Jessica Gaestel, Connor Feehan, and Courtland Hackel on successfully passing the NJ State Firefighter 1 exam!

These members dedicated countless hours at the fire academy preparing for this milestone, and their hard work and commitment have truly paid off.

With this achievement, they officially transition from their orange probationary shields to their black firefighter shields—a well-earned symbol of their dedication and perseverance.

We’re proud to have them as part of our department and look forward to watching them continue their journey as they move on to Firefighter 2. Congratulations and great job!

Last night, members of the Bay Head Fire Department had the opportunity to conduct fire pre-plan walkthroughs and standpipe evolutions at the historic Grenville Hotel.

Crews performed standpipe access and deployment evolutions throughout the 4th floor, along with ladder operations at the rear of the building—gaining valuable, hands-on training in a unique setting.

A big thank you to Harry and Maureen Typaldos, owners of the Grenville, for their generosity and support in allowing us to train in their facility. Opportunities like this help us stay prepared to better serve our community.
