100 Club of Bay County
“No one does more, gives more or risks more than the men and women who have pledged their lives to protect us”. The 100 Club of Bay County was formed in 2006 to acknowledge and repay first responders who have risked or lost their lives to protect ours. When tragedy strikes, the effects are devastating and all too often, it strikes in the form of a death or disabling injury o

f a first responder. The 100 Club of Bay County is here to provide immediate response to the needs of first responders who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty, and to provide resources to enhance their safety. The 100 Club of Bay County is 100% funded through memberships and contributions

Tomorrow, the family and friends of Trooper Joel Popp will lay him to rest after he was killed in the line of duty on January 24, 2024. A tragic on-duty accident claimed his life and shattered the hearts of many.
Thanks to the generosity of those of you in our community who have donated to and supported the One Hundred Club of Bay County, we were able to provide Trooper Popp’s surviving wife and young daughter with a check to help with some immediate expenses they may have during this difficult time.

The mission of the One Hundred Club is to provide benefits to the families of police officers, emergency personnel, firefighters, and other first responders in Bay County who are killed in the line of duty. Trooper Popp was assigned to the Michigan State Police Tri-City Post. Although we hope to never run into a situation like this, we are happy that we were able to provide some relief. Thank you for your dedication and service Trooper Popp. May you rest in peace.

October 28th is National First Responders Day to honor the men and women who act quickly when an emergency is at hand.

First responders dedicate their lives to save lives. They are the people who run toward a crisis while the rest of the world flees. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 4.6 million career and volunteer first responders support the communities where they live. They are firefighters, police, emergency medical technicians (EMT), paramedics, and 911 operators. In an emergency, they’re the first on the scene. These dedicated professionals answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line.

NYPD Officer Moira Smith was the first person to report the 9/11 attack. She immediately ran into the towers and started evacuating people. She was last seen going back into the south tower to evacuate more people. After the collapse of the second tower, there was a brief radio transmission from a female officer calling for help. It was later determined that this radio call was from Officer Smith. Her remains were recovered in March 2002. She was the only female NYPD officer to die at Ground Zero.
