Help children identify trusted adults!

One simple summer safety activity: help your child name their “safe adults.”

Ask them:
“Who are 3 grown-ups you can talk to if you feel scared, confused, uncomfortable, or need help?”

A safe adult should be someone who listens, believes them, stays calm, and helps keep them safe.

This small conversation can make a big difference. Kids need to know they have people they can go to — and that they will never be in trouble for asking for help.

Big things are happening in Wharton County!

A huge thank you to Cliff and Ashley Nielsen for helping us bring an important child abuse prevention message to Wharton County. 💙

Because of their generosity and willingness to partner with us, the first permanent “Safety Starts With You” child sexual abuse prevention sign in Wharton County is now on display in El Campo.

Located along the entrance to Legacy Fields, this sign will be seen by countless families, children, coaches, and community members throughout the year. Every person who passes by is reminded of a simple but powerful message: Child sexual abuse is preventable, and safety starts with all of us.

These signs are more than awareness campaigns, they are community commitments. They start conversations, provide resources, and remind us that protecting children is everyone’s responsibility.

We are incredibly grateful to Cliff and Ashley for helping us expand this prevention effort and for standing alongside us in creating safer communities for children.

A huge thank you to the Sargent Area Lions Club for welcoming our Executive Director, Kelli Wright-Nelson, to speak at your meeting tonight!

We are excited about the opportunity to build new partnerships and continue expanding services and support for individuals and families in the Sargent area. It was wonderful to share more about the work of The Crisis Center and explore ways we can work together to strengthen our community.

Summer brings fun, freedom, and new routines, but it also makes safety conversations even more important.

As kids spend more time at home, at camps, with friends, family members, babysitters, or online, now is a great time to talk about:

☀️ What to do if something feels wrong

Prevention does not have to be scary. It can start with small, everyday conversations that help kids feel safe, heard, and supported.

At The Crisis Center, we believe safety starts with awareness, and we are here to help families, schools, and community partners learn how to recognize, report, and prevent abuse.

Today, our Leadership in Action Advisory Committee gathered in El Campo to discuss important initiatives focused on preventing child sexual abuse and expanding outreach efforts throughout our communities.

I am incredibly grateful for this dedicated group of leaders who continue to share their time, expertise, ideas, and passion for making a difference. Meaningful change happens when communities come together, and this group is helping us build a future where children are safer, families are stronger, and prevention is everyone’s responsibility.

Thank you to each member for your commitment to our mission and for helping move these important conversations into action. Together, we are creating awareness, inspiring change, and ensuring that child safety remains a priority in Matagorda and Wharton Counties.
