STUNNING day at the lake today. Inducing a special find of hair ice!

This is the FUNNIEST and most informative post I have ever seen about my beloved lake.

the following paragraph is an excerpt for example: "Battle Ground Lake is a volcanic feature known as a maar. It’s formed when magma rises from below, through what’s called a diatreme, which is a fancy word for a volcanic pipe that pushes up through other innocent, unsuspecting rocks. This magma moves up beneath groundwater, sneaks up on it, and with a wicked gleam in its eye, taps the groundwater on the shoulder. The groundwater, having no head for panic, flashes into steam (which is rumored to have a head) and causes the rock overhead to explode upward with terrible force."

State Parks Opening May 5
Washington State Parks has released its list of parks to reopen Tuesday, May 5, for local day-use recreation only. The reopening will apply to state-managed parks, wildlife areas, recreation land and boat launches. However, it may take several days for gates to be unlocked and sites to be serviced at remote areas due to limited staff capacity. Some parks may not open immediately due to impacts on rural communities and the potential for crowding. State Parks is working with local communities and its partners to determine the best approach and timing to reopening these areas. View the open state parks here: https://parks.state.wa.us/1181/Parks-opening

State Parks will delay the opening of some areas beyond May 5, including all ocean beach parks and those along the Columbia River Gorge. Parks is working with local communities, natural resource agencies and our partners in Oregon to determine the appropriate timing for reopening these areas. No specific timeline has been identified for opening these park areas.

State Parks will also take steps to reduce parking capacity at some urban locations such as Lake Sammamish, Saint Edward and Dash Point by limiting parking. Reducing the number of parking stalls available will help decrease the number of people who can access the parks at one time, minimizing crowds.

State Parks asks that visitors:
➡️ Stay close to home.
➡️ Check the status of their favorite park or trail heads before heading out.
➡️ Come prepared with their own handwashing supplies.
➡️ Follow State Parks’ guidelines for responsible recreation here https://parks.state.wa.us/1177/Novel-Coronavirus---COVID-19

Dear Nature Lover,

We at Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue are asking you to please stay home during this COVID-19 global emergency. You love being outdoors, and right now the cabin fever is driving many people into the backcountry. We get it. We feel the same way, and we are asking you to stay home. We are asking you to stay off the hiking trails and out of the backcountry because:

Rescuer Safety - Rescues require us to work within inches of each other for potentially hours. Some of us may have the coronavirus and show no symptoms causing us to risk our fellow rescuers. Additionally, every time we respond to a mission, we risk physical injury.

Ability to Reach the Trail - Our SAR deputies have been out checking the trails, and there are too many people out there. We are potentially unable to get our rescue trucks anywhere near the trailheads.

Hospital Overload - Hospitals are already overwhelmed, and they do not have enough Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to keep healthcare workers safe.

Limited Blood Supply - The blood supply in the Puget Sound region is dangerously low, and backcountry injuries can be severe enough to need surgery. Please don’t risk it.

Your Safety - if you are injured, requiring hospital care, you will likely be exposed to coronavirus while at the hospital.

During this novel coronavirus pandemic, please be our heroes by staying home. Also, please like and share this post to help us get the message out to as many people as possible.

Thank you and we’ll see you on the trails and mountains when this over.

Thank you to super-fan Louise Harmon! She got this photo and posted:

"Spent a wonderful morning with my friend and her grandson, hiking around Battle Ground Lake. Sadly, we found (and removed) a rather large amount of discarded fishing line in several places-a threat to the critters who live there. If you fish at the lake, please take your fishing line, floats, lead sinkers with you when you leave."

Thank you to ALL the unsung heros who help us keep this place we love clean!

I'm hoping some BG Lake fans will be available this Sunday morning to volunteer to help with a cool project in the park.

I have spent several years working with the rangers to get the trail maps corrected and updated, modernized, replace the outdated ones, name the trails, and place trail markers along all the trails to let people know where they are and where they're going.

And we are ready to install!!!

Meet Sun morning at 8am in the lower level of the main parking lot)between the horse-poo-shed and the Chelatchie prairie trail parking). Bring good boots, gloves, water.

Our main goal Sunday morning is to get all the main full-size park map-signs put up. this involves getting 6 4x4 posts into the ground (we have a gas-auger), tamping in the posts, and attaching the signs. We will also be replacing the outdated signs that are currently on the 5 reader boards throughout the park.

IF enough people show up, I will send an additional team or two off with the carsonite posts to pound those in for the trail-markers that will go at the intersections throughout the park. If I don't have enough people to do this, I will do it myself with a couple friends over the next couple weeks. Getting in the 4x4s and all the main signs is the goal for this Sunday.
