Today, please join us in congratulating and thanking Lowe's of Battle Creek and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK!
The Ann Shafer Community Service Award is given annually to an individual or organization that has significantly impacted S.A.F.E. Place. Ann was an advocate for many. She served as a Calhoun County Commissioner for ten years, was the founding member of the Battle Creek Chapter of the National Organization for Women and served on the Board of numerous other community organizations. Ann served on the S.A.F.E. Place Board of Director’s from the organization’s inception until 1991.
This year, we had the wonderful problem of having two businesses that have truly gone above and beyond, so we we were pleased to present the Ann Shafer Community Service Award to the team at Lowe’s of Battle Creek and 2 Men & A Truck!
This past year, Lowe’s helped us meet a critical need by renovating our communal kitchen. Each year the kitchen provides space for cooking and meals for over 600 adults and children, so it needed a lot of love. Lowe’s selected S.A.F.E. Place as the recipient of their Lowe’s Heroes project and donated the materials and labor to install new cabinets and countertops. This project created a welcoming space that is functional for those we serve.
The team at 2 Men & A Truck have been volunteering and hosting Movers for Moms drives for many years. We rely on their shelter donations each year to provide hygiene supplies and houseware items to survivors and their children in shelter. Additionally, whenever we have a need for assistance with moving heavy items throughout our building, they send a whole crew. Recently, they helped us clear out our garage to prepare for its renovation into an apartment which included a chain of their team and our staff passing items up our 3-story fire escape to move items to the attic.
Lowe’s and 2 Men & A Truck are outstanding businesses that we are lucky to have in our community, and we thank them for their ongoing support! 💜
