Emmett Township Department of Public Safety Press Release

On Friday, May 8th, at approximately 2:00 PM, Harper Creek High School was the target of a reported bomb threat. Harper Creek Community Schools and the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety worked collaboratively to investigate the report.

Out of an abundance of caution, students were evacuated while the building was searched. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we are committed to keeping everyone safe.

Unfortunately, schools across Michigan and the nation continue to experience threats and false reports designed to create fear and disrupt learning environments.

Incidents such as these are treated seriously, and today’s response followed established safety protocols to help ensure the protection of students and staff.

This remains an open investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact School Resource Officer King at [email protected] or Silent Observer at (269) 964-3888. As always, if you see something, say something.

I want to personally thank the students for remaining orderly and following staff directions throughout the incident. I also want to thank the staff for their dedication to keeping students safe, and the parents for their trust and cooperation during a stressful situation.

Showers/storms may look unimpressive on radar but could have 50-70 mph wind gusts upon exiting
A few swaths of 0.50"-1.00" rain possible (isolated > 1.00") may create brief ponding of water on roads

DNR urges visitors: 'Know before you go'

Following recent flooding and damage from rain, snowmelt and severe weather across all 83 Michigan counties, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is urging outdoor enthusiasts to check for closures and safety information before their next adventure. Floodwater can cause unpredictable current conditions, carry debris, bacteria or hazardous waste, or cover downed electrical lines. Walking or riding on flooded or saturated trails can cause unnecessary damage or result in slipping. Visitors can find up-to-date closures of boating access sites, state parks, trails and campgrounds at Michigan.gov/DNRClosures and search “recent flooding.”

Before visiting a state park, boating site or trail, it's always a good idea to check the latest closures due to planned improvement projects, repairs and weather-related events.
