▶️ The full suite: Linking camera feeds to 911 dispatch during an active, in-progress call. You decide which cameras are connected, giving responding police, fire, or EMS personnel a better understanding of what's happening before they arrive.

⚠️ The Battle Creek Police Department will observe a service change today, Friday, Sept. 4, due to a staffing shortage. ⚠️

➡️ The BCPD station lobby will close an hour early, at 4 p.m., today, Friday, Sept. 4.

➡️ Normal business hours for services through the Administrative/Records Division, of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8, following the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7.

The Battle Creek Police Department Detective Bureau partnered with the Calhoun County Major Crimes Task Force to investigate a missing person report originating with the Marshall Police Department.

As detectives followed investigative leads, they located the missing person deceased within Battle Creek city limits. The Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office has authorized an open murder charge against a 34-year-old Battle Creek man.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Detective Bureau at 269-781-0911 or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.

🚨 During August, we investigated reports of 8 stolen vehicles and 13 attempted vehicle thefts in Battle Creek.

All stolen vehicles were recovered.

Most incidents occurred overnight and have primarily involved Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

BCPD arrested a 19-year-old Battle Creek man Monday on a weapons charge following an investigation into credible threats.

Officers located the man near Second Street and Stone Avenue while proactively patrolling the area and recovered a loaded fi***rm. He was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on a weapons charge.

The investigation remains ongoing.

🚔 Curious about a career in law enforcement?

Applications are now open for the Battle Creek Police Explorer Program.

Young people ages 14-21 can learn about policing and criminal justice through hands-on training, community service and direct interaction with Battle Creek police officers.

Meetings are held twice each month on Sundays, and participants have the opportunity to train in areas such as traffic stops, crash investigations, building searches, report writing and physical fitness.

💥What was that noise?‼️

If you're near the West River Road training range around midday today, you may hear several loud noises.

The Battle Creek Police Department Bomb Unit and members of the Michigan National Guard are conducting a planned training exercise between noon and 1 p.m. at the training range near the city's wastewater treatment plant.

Last Thursday, Battle Creek police officers recovered two fi***rms during an investigation involving several young people near Greenwood Avenue and Hubbard Street. A 16-year-old was arrested on weapons charges.

Unfortunately, this case is not an isolated incident.

Since February, our department has recovered 67 illegally possessed fi***rms. More than one-third of those fi***rms were recovered from individuals age 20 or younger.

Every illegally possessed fi***rm removed from our community is one less opportunity for that weapon to be used in a violent crime, an accidental shooting, or another preventable tragedy.

Keeping illegal fi***rms off our streets is not something law enforcement can do alone. It takes community members who are willing to speak up when something doesn't seem right.

After receiving information from a northern Michigan resident, BCPD investigators learned a 23-year-old Ceresco man had allegedly sent sexually explicit photographs and messages to a person he believed was a 14-year-old girl and arranged to meet her in Battle Creek later that day.

The meeting did not go as he planned. Officers and detectives were waiting when he arrived.

The department is submitting a charge of accosting a child for immoral purposes to the prosecutor's office. Additional charges may be considered pending review of evidence recovered during the investigation.
