Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is a regulatory agency that oversees issues affecting the environment of Louisiana.

In the event of an environmental emergency, citizens are encouraged to first contact their local authorities - police, sheriff, fire department, etc. Citizens and the regulated community can also contact the SPOC hotline. SPOC concerns include spills, releases, odors, fish kills, open burning, waste tires, and any other types of environmental incidents. Citizens can report the incident online at h

LDEQ’s Regional Offices are rolling up their sleeves this month to support Keep Louisiana Beautiful's Love Our Waterways, a statewide effort to remove litter and debris from Louisiana’s bayous, lakes, rivers and shorelines. 🌊

This week, the Southeast Regional Office (SERO) sent its Northshore Krewe on a boat to clean up the Tchefuncte River and its Bayou Lafourche section to tackle litter along a stretch of Bayou Lafourche. Our other Regional Offices will be joining SERO in waterway cleanup projects across the state throughout September.

Keeping Louisiana’s waters clean is a shared responsibility, and we’re proud to get out in the field alongside our communities and do our part to .

The 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 (𝗟𝗢𝗙) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 is accepting pre-applications for its fourth funding cycle, with $𝟮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮.

The Louisiana Outdoors Forever program is intended to help Louisiana projects gain a competitive edge by providing additional funding or match to maximize other grant applications. It is therefore envisioned to serve as a matching source for other state or federal funding.

Since the program began, LOF has:
🌱 Selected 𝟮𝟭 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀
💰 Awarded $12 million in LOF funding
🤝 Helped bring an additional $𝟯𝟳.𝟴 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮

Projects selected should help:
▪️ Expand conservation efforts in the state
▪️ Restore valuable habitat
▪️ Provide for land management
▪️ Enhance public access

Preference will be given to projects based on how well they meet the scoring criteria, but the Project Selection Board will also consider the dollars the project will bring to Louisiana. Eligible applicants and project types are show in the graphic.

LDEQ : Remediation Division and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff recently joined representatives of the Spanish Town community in Baton Rouge to discuss the current status of the Capitol Lakes Superfund Site before conducting a joint inspection of the lakes and surrounding areas. and work together to monitor the site and support ongoing environmental protection efforts through continued coordination, community engagement and on-the-ground inspections.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality participated in the BRCX (Baton Rouge Complex) Tri-Annual Oil Spill/GRT (Global Response Team) Red Stick Exercise Aug. 19-20 alongside ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge.

The training exercise is a broad emergency preparedness simulation designed to test ExxonMobil and multiple responding agencies in times of emergency. The organizations taking part work together to emphasis the importance of coordination and quick emergency response.

The drill focuses on high-consequence maritime and industrial scenarios mostly along the Mississippi River corridor and surrounding Gulf regions.

“Events such as these provide an ideal venue for Federal, State, and Local Responders to understand how large corporations, such as ExxonMobil, will respond to and manage large scale events,” said Daniel Lambert, Environmental Scientist Senior and Disaster Coordinator, LDEQ. “It also provides an avenue for responding agencies to clearly express and manage expectations of what will be required in order to protect the safety and wellbeing of citizens and the environment.”

Besides representatives from LDEQ, other Louisiana agencies taking part in the drill included Louisiana State Police, the Oil Spill Coordinators Office, Wildlife and Fisheries, Department of Health, as well as the East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge Offices of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

• Supplies and event T-shirts will be available starting at 7:00 AM at the event site.
• Collected litter can be deposited at the Blind River Boat Launch or Red Falgoust Boat Launch on the day of the event.
• At noon, join us at the Blind River Boat Launch for a volunteer celebration and prizes!
• Cleanup supplies will be available beginning September 1 at either parish library if you want to get an early start.

You don't have to be in a boat to make a difference!
Walking along the bank of a river, canal, pond, bayou, or drainage ditch counts as a waterway cleanup. Grab your friends, family, and neighbors and help us keep St. James Parish's waterways clean!

The inaugural meeting of the Task Force on Illegal Dumping Prevention and Enforcement was held Friday, Aug. 21, marking the first step toward developing a coordinated statewide approach to addressing the issue of illegal dumping in Louisiana. Chaired by Deputy Secretary Nathan McBride, the task force was created following passage of House Concurrent Resolution 85 by Representative Alonzo Knox and includes legislators and appointed representatives from LDEQ, Keep Louisiana Beautiful and other government agencies.

LDEQ Criminal Investigator Kevin Scott presented at the meeting, highlighting the persistence and increasing frequency of illegal dumping complaints. The task force will continue deliberations at later meetings in October, November, December and January, with its work expected to conclude by Feb. 12, 2027.
