Commissioner Mike Strain was recognized for 15+ years of service to the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) during its 2026 Annual Meeting in Portland, Maine.

The honor reflects years of leadership, collaboration, and service to Louisiana agriculture and forestry, as well as Commissioner Strain’s contributions to NASDA and the advancement of agriculture and forestry at the state and national levels.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry was proud to participate in the LSU AgCenter Beef and Forage Field Day in Alexandria.

Our Brand Commission team provided saddle microchipping services, answered questions about brand registration, distributed brand applications, and assisted producers with preserving family brands and livestock records. We were also able to help several producers research the history of their family brands. During the farm tour, Dr. Daniel Myrick provided an animal health presentation and discussed issues important to Louisiana livestock producers.

Events like these provide a valuable opportunity to connect with producers, share resources, and support Louisiana’s beef industry. We appreciate the LSU AgCenter for hosting a great event and everyone who stopped by to visit with our team.

Commissioner Mike Strain and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry would like to congratulate two outstanding members of LDAF’s forestry division who were recognized during the 2026 Louisiana Society of American Foresters (LASAF) Annual Meeting in Natchitoches.

Isaac Moore received the Spark Plug Award, recognizing his individual effort and initiative in the administration of LASAF. Joseph Hogg received the Young Forester Leadership Award in recognition of his service to SAF, the forestry profession and the forest community.

LDAF’s Matthew Polk, Interim Assistant Commissioner and Protection Branch Fire Chief, also provided an update on the work of the Office of Forestry during the meeting.

Congratulations to these deserving award recipients, and thank you to all who are committed to advancing Louisiana forestry.

More than 600 Vernon Parish fourth graders are learning why water matters at the third annual Project WET Water Festival! Over two days, students are taking part in hands-on activities that explore the water cycle, storm drains, watersheds, pollution, water use and coastal protection. LDAF is proud to be part of efforts like these that help Louisiana students understand our water resources and the importance of protecting them for the future. A big thank-you to the Calcasieu Soil and Water Conservation District and all of the partners who helped make this year’s Water Festival a success. From our wildfire response and suppression teams to farmers, foresters, agricultural and forestry workers, rural families, office and support staff, and our friends and neighbors across Louisiana, we all face challenges that can affect our emotional and mental well-being.
Take a moment this week to check in with the people around you. A simple conversation can make a difference.
