Investing in students today helps build Louisiana’s workforce for tomorrow.

The Louisiana Works joined the St. James Parish School System, CF Industries, and Cajun Industries at the St. James Parish Career & College Center for a check presentation supporting opportunities for St. James Parish students.

Special recognition to State Rep. Ken Brass for securing $200,000 during the 2026 Regular Legislative Session to support the St. James Parish High School Industry, Healthcare & Business Internship Program and the C3 Center’s Cosmetology Program.

The investment expands opportunities for students from St. James High School and Lutcher High School, who attend the C3 Center for college dual enrollment courses and technical certifications and credentials.

The partnership goes beyond the classroom. CF Industries and Cajun Industries, LLC joined Secretary Susie Schowen to talk with students about career pathways and future employment opportunities throughout the region — giving students a direct connection to the industries and employers helping shape their communities.

Cajun Industries was recently selected as the General Construction Contractor for CF Industries’ $3.7 billion Blue Point One Project in Ascension Parish, creating another connection between the region’s students, employers and growing workforce opportunities.

From internships and cosmetology to technical credentials, dual enrollment and direct industry exposure, St. James students are gaining opportunities to explore what comes next — and prepare for it.

When schools, employers, and workforce partners invest in students together, we’re not just preparing students for jobs — we’re building Louisiana’s talent pipeline for the future.

Louisiana’s economy is growing. Now, we have to make sure Louisiana’s workforce is ready.

Louisiana Works Deputy Secretary Osmar Padilla recently joined 107.3 FM to discuss what more than $250 billion in announced investments since January 2024 means for Louisiana workers and employers.

The conversation covered:
• Preparing workers for thousands of new career opportunities
• Creating pathways for experienced workers, career changers and the next generation
• Louisiana’s progress in labor force participation, with 33,000 more people joining the workforce over the past year
• Making it easier for employers to connect with Louisiana’s workforce system

As Padilla put it: “The announcements are great, but we’ve got to deliver now.”

Louisiana Works is focused on doing just that—connecting Louisiana workers to the opportunities being created across our state.

📻 As heard on 107.3 FM.
