Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers LASACT provides training, guidance, networking and development opportunities for addiction professionals in Louisiana 💙

The Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers (LASACT) was incorporated in 1975 with two main objectives:

• To further the treatment of individuals and family members who suffer from alcoholism and other drug addictions.
• To represent the interests of the membership. As LASACT has evolved through time, its focus has expanded. No longer in the business of providing certifications to practice, LASACT now concentrates its efforts in other areas, including the following:

• Continuing to advocate for the advancement of the professions of Substance Abuse Counseling, Substance Abuse Prevention, and Compulsive Gambling Counseling
• Providing high quality, current education and training for Addiction Professionals, including an annual Conference that is designed to present the most current information in the field of Addiction Counseling.
• Test preparation workshops, other workshops of interest to counselors, such as DSM 5 and Motivational Interviewing, and home study courses are provided throughout the year.
• Providing internationally recognized testing standards for the credentialing of Substance Abuse Counselors, Preventionists, and Compulsive Gambling Counselors;
• Establishing in April, 2006, of an Addiction Counselor Training Program through its Educational Institute to provide substance abuse specific training to persons entering the addiction counseling field.

A Message from the Executive Director: Some people simply occupy a position. Others leave it better than they found it. Our LACT Director, Nya Skipper, is the latter.

Nya has shared with us that she will be leaving LASACT to pursue a new opportunity. While we are sad to see her go, I am incredibly proud of what she has accomplished in helping educate the next generation of addiction professionals. She brought passion, high expectations, and a genuine belief in the potential of the counselors entrusted to her leadership. LACT is stronger because Nya led it.

Our responsibility now is to protect that progress.

LASACT remains unwavering in our commitment to producing strong addiction counselors, and that starts with giving them an education worthy of the work they are called to do. We will find someone who shares those values, believes deeply in our students, and is ready to build upon the foundation Nya leaves behind.

Nya, thank you. You have made your mark here, and I sincerely wish you nothing but success and fulfillment in what comes next.

Amazing! Thank you for joining us this past weekend!

We’re incredibly grateful to the organizers of LASACT '26 and to every addiction professional who took the time to connect, collaborate, and share ideas throughout the conference.

Events like these remind us that meaningful change happens when passionate people come together with a shared commitment to improving care, expanding access to treatment, and bringing hope to individuals and families affected by addiction.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Rise Community Hospital booth. We’re thankful for the conversations, the new connections, and the opportunity to stand alongside so many dedicated professionals working to transform lives every day.
