Amazing friday with the volunteers from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana đź’™ to get these ramps built. Accessibility is the first step in revitalizing homes and the one we take for granted most!

A great way to get the weekend started right!

“Safe and healthy housing” isn’t just a phrase we like to use. It’s about real, everyday experiences. From safe stairs and clean air to accessible bathrooms and working systems, these repairs protect health, preserve independence and help people remain connected to their communities.

Learn what safe and healthy housing really means and why repairs are a form of prevention in our latest post. https://rebuildingtogether.org/blog/what-we-mean-when-we-say-%E2%80%9Csafe-and-healthy-housing%E2%80%9D

Another fantastic Friday at RTBR!
Huge shoutout to the LSU School of Construction Management for spending four days with us over the past two weeks. đź’Şđź’śđź’›

Their student volunteers:
• Replaced siding on a home on N. 15th Street
• Built a wheelchair ramp and installed HVAC & lighting fixtures on Ontario St.
• Built ramp sections for our upcoming December projects

We’re grateful for their hard work and excited for the impact we’ll continue making together in our community!

Neighborly Love

RTBR works FIVE days a week, all year long, to help elderly, veteran and disabled low-income home owners in Baton Rouge. We are unknown, unheard of and mostly invisible. . . . like the people we help. We are completely privately funded with NO government assistance. Check out RT National and visit a few of the 150+ RT Affiliates websites around the country. There’s an affiliate in New Orleans and another in Lafayette. We are homegrown, faith based and passionate about helping those who need a hand Get a hand. Not a hand OUT. If you were able to purchase a home in your lifetime, you were a working, tax paying functioning member of our community and just because you are old and low-income shouldn’t mean you need to live in a home without running water or heat (or a roof or a ramp, etc etc). As a homeowner yourself, you know things break! Many older folks on fixed incomes simply do not have the money for a new water heater, new wheelchair ramp or to repair rotten siding. If you aren’t able to help us physically, help us financially. We stretch a penny four times farther than a contractor and can rebuild a flooded home for $11,000, build a ramp for $1100 and fix a clogged sink for free! Think what could have happened to Baton Rouge if FEMA had given us $150,000 per flooded homeowner instead of buying 2500 trailers with that money!!! (That’s $$375,000,000 on trailers for those without a calculator). . . .

Join us today in our efforts to help. . . . Thank you!
