LSU kicks off the 2026 season today against Clemson! While the Tigers are looking for MVPs on the field, kids in foster care need MVPs off the field, too.

A CASA volunteer shows up, speaks up, and stands in a child’s corner when they need an advocate most. You don’t have to wear a helmet to be a hero. You just have to be willing to show up and make a difference.

At this week’s board meeting, we had the honor of recognizing Advocate Supervisor, Sheila Scott, for two decades of dedication, compassion, and advocacy for children in foster care. Her commitment to ensuring children have a consistent voice and a caring advocate has made a lasting impact on our community... just look at the numbers!

We're sending bear hugs to our friends at LSU Kappa Alpha Theta for donating teddy bears to bring comfort and joy to children in foster care in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Since 1992, Capital Area CASA has served more than 4,000 children in foster care, helping ensure their voices are heard and their best interests are represented.

But there are more stories still being written.

The next 4,000 children need advocates too. They need people who will show up, listen, speak up, and stand beside them as they navigate the foster care system.

Congratulations to our Marketing & Outreach Manager, Shea Smith Breaux, on being selected for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s 2026 Nonprofit Board Fellows cohort! We’re excited to see Shea grow her leadership skills, build connections, and bring what she learns back to Capital Area CASA and our community.

The Foundation is pleased to welcome the members of its 2026 Nonprofit Board Fellows cohort!

Selected from a competitive pool of applicants, 28 fellows will participate in a tuition-free, seven-session program designed for civic-minded individuals who are new to or preparing for nonprofit board and committee service.

Throughout the program, fellows will gain the knowledge, skills and connections needed to serve as thoughtful, engaged board members. We look forward to supporting this year’s cohort as they grow and prepare to strengthen the organizations and communities they serve.
