Baton Rouge Team Honors National Gun Violence Awareness Month 🧡

Every June, communities across the nation observe National Gun Violence Awareness Month to remember victims, support survivors, and renew a collective commitment to public safety. The movement originally began in 2013 after the tragic shooting of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton in Chicago. Her friends chose to wear orange—the color hunters use to signal their presence and stay safe—to honor her life. What started as a local high school tribute has grown into a powerful national campaign.

In solidarity with this mission, the Baton Rouge Regional Probation and Parole Office actively participated in National Gun Violence Awareness Day during "Wear Orange Weekend" on Friday, June 5, 2026. Staff members wore orange to raise vital awareness and demonstrate their everyday commitment to building safer, stronger communities for the youth and families they serve.

We are pleased to announce that the Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia has officially been renamed the Columbia Center for Youth.

This transition reflects our ongoing commitment to the youth we serve and our continued mission to provide rehabilitative services that foster positive growth, education, and successful reintegration into our communities. While our name has changed, our dedication to supporting our residents remains stronger than ever.

We look forward to this new chapter as the Columbia Center for Youth.

We are thrilled to announce a brand-new partnership with Shut-Up & Drive, officially launching the ACY Driving Academy!đźš—đź’¨

On Friday, May 15, 2026, nine incredible youth from the ACY-Bunkie campus successfully completed the academy’s first-ever in-person driver education course. But the journey doesn't stop here—this graduation unlocks a massive future opportunity!

These students are now immediately eligible to pursue their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) certification through the Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) in Alexandria!

Learning to drive is a huge step toward independence, and a CDL opens the door to high-demand, high-paying careers. We couldn't be prouder of their hard work and dedication.

Congratulations to our first graduating class! The road ahead is bright. 🌟

Tragedy Met with Swift Justice🤝⚖

On April 30, 2026, the OJJ Special Response Team (SRT) worked hand-in-hand with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office following the tragic fatal shooting of a youth. By leveraging our electronic monitoring data, agents provided JPSO Homicide detectives with critical real-time intelligence and movement history.

This seamless inter-agency collaboration—including assistance with the autopsy and investigative staffing—directly resulted in the swift apprehension of a 15-year-old male suspect. We remain committed to community safety and justice through technology and teamwork.

From May 3rd through May 9th, we celebrated the incredible people who keep our state moving forward.

Whether it's working behind the scenes or on the front lines, our staff at the Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) show up every day with heart, dedication, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of our youth.

To our team: You are the backbone of everything we do. Thank you for your hard work, your patience, and your passion. We see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you! 🤝❤️
