Fighting for Louisiana Families in the Louisiana House

05/29/2026

Yesterday, members of the House Democratic Caucus shared powerful testimony in opposition to SB121. Louisiana cannot afford to move backwards, and House Democrats remain committed to protecting fair representation and the power of the people.

Louisiana can move heaven and earth to redraw a congressional map in four weeks.

No rule is too sacred, no schedule is too tight.

But when it comes to our schools, our hospitals, Cancer Alley, child poverty, maternal mortality?

Suddenly we have to be patient.

The fight for fair representation does not end in Louisiana.

Democratic leaders from across the South gathered at the Louisiana State Capitol to stand united in support of voting rights, fair maps, and equal representation for every community.

Rep. Kyle Green Jr., Rep. Gene Wu (TX), Rep. Carolyn Hugley (GA), and Rep. Zakiya Summers (MS) encouraged communities across the region to stay engaged and continue advocating for fair representation.

Today we pause to remember the men and women who gave everything so we could have everything.

Thank you to all who served and made the ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸

Yesterday, Republicans made last-minute changes to the congressional map in committee with no public input and no transparency.

Louisianans showed up to have their voices heard and deserve to be fully in the loop.

Follow to stay informed on what's happening in the Legislature and with SB121.

SB121 passed through House & Governmental Affairs Committee today, but Representatives Aimee Adatto Freeman and Pat Moore want Louisianans to know the fight is not over.

Louisiana House Democrats will continue to fight for fair representation.

During today's House & Governmental Affairs committee hearing, our chairman, Rep. Kyle Green Jr. raised serious concerns about SB 121.

He reminded committee members that the proposed Congressional District 2 is virtually identical to the map passed by the Louisiana Legislature in 2011, a map drawn under the scrutiny of the Voting Rights Act's pre-clearance requirements.

The Louisiana House Democratic Caucus remains committed to ensuring that every district is drawn fairly, legally, and free from racial gerrymandering.
