🚗🫎 Peak Moose Crash Season is Here

As we move through peak moose crash season, drivers are reminded to slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution, especially during dawn and dusk when moose are most active.

Moose can be difficult to see near roadways, and their size makes crashes especially dangerous. Always scan the sides of the road, use high beams when appropriate, and reduce your speed in wooded areas or locations marked with moose crossing signs.

A few extra seconds of caution can help prevent a serious crash.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day of reflection, remembrance, and celebration.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

This important day serves as a reminder of our nation’s history and the continued importance of freedom, equality, resilience, and community. It is also an opportunity to honor the culture, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans.

Sagadahoc County EMA joins communities across the country in recognizing Juneteenth and reflecting on the meaning of this historic day.

Emergencies can happen at any time, and having a well-stocked emergency supply kit can make all the difference. A little preparation today can help protect you, your family, and your household when disaster strikes.

Your emergency kit should include essential items such as water, nonperishable food, a flashlight, extra batteries, a first aid kit, medications, important documents, hygiene items, a phone charger, and other supplies you may need if you lose power or need to shelter in place.

Disasters can happen with little to no warning and being prepared means making a plan for every member of your household including your pets.

Take time today to build a pet emergency kit with essentials such as food, water, medications, vaccination records, a leash or carrier, comfort items, and a recent photo of your pet. Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip information are up to date and know where you can safely take your pet if you need to evacuate.

Your pets depend on you during an emergency. A little planning now can make a big difference when it matters most.
