FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Structure Fire on Brunswick Road in Richmond
Richmond, Maine —At approximately 12:33 PM today, Sagadahoc County Regional Communications Center received a call for a fully involved structure fire in the area. Emergency crews were dispatched and responded to the area of 165 Brunswick Road in Richmond, A and W Auto Sales and Service.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a rapidly spreading fire, resulting in the activation of a second alarm and the response of additional fire and emergency resources from throughout the region. There was one minor injury on scene. Crews treated the patient for very minor burns and smoke inhalation, and they did not require transport to an area hospital.
Responding agencies included the Fire Departments of Richmond, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Topsham, Woolwich, Lisbon, Pittston, Gardner, West Gardiner, Litchfield Dresden and Farmingdale Fire Departments; Richmond Police Department; Richmond Utilities District; Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency; Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office; Maine Department of Transportation; Maine Department of Environmental Protection; Maine State Fire Marshal's Office; American Red Cross; and Tourtelotte Excavating.
Due to the significant number of emergency personnel and apparatus operating at the scene, residents and motorists were asked to avoid the area of Brunswick Road while firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Brunswick Road is a heavily traveled roadway, and maintaining access for emergency vehicles was critical to the response. This roadway has since been reopened in all directions.
The structure sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss at this time.
The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire and its cause. No additional information regarding the cause will be released until the investigation is complete.
Sagadahoc County Emergency Management and responding agencies thank the public for their cooperation and for avoiding the area while emergency operations were underway.
