With profound sadness, we share the passing of our beloved colleague, Kathryn Muller.
Kathy had an exemplary career in public service, dedicating more than four decades to Steuben County and its residents. She began her work with Steuben County in 1979 at the former Health Care Facility. In 1986, she joined the Community Services Department as a Social Worker and, in 1990, became Assistant Director of Community Services. In 2000, she was appointed Commissioner of Social Services, a role she held with pride and passion until her passing.
For more than a quarter of a century, Kathy was responsible for managing the Countyβs largest and most complex department, providing critical services to people in need and ensuring the protection of both the young and the elderly.
She developed a remarkable team that continues to reflect the values she displayedβcompassion, strength, creativity, and integrity. Kathy was an expert in her field and provided guidance and support across the state, as evidenced by her appointment as President of the New York Public Welfare Association (NYPWA) in 2020.
Kathy was a wonderful and unique friend, coworker, mother, and grandmother. Our community will not be the same without her, yet we know she has left a truly enduring legacy.
