9/12/26 The north end boat launch is closed to boat traffic due to issues with the dock. It will be repaired Monday. The south end launch is open.

Earlier this morning, four of our officers spent their off duty time climbing 2,200 steps, loaded down with gear, in remembrance of this first responders who bravely climbed up the World Trade Center stairs responding to the 9/11 attacks.

9/11 information

The events that occurred on 9/11/01, 25 years ago, had a profound effect it on our country, our citizens, and especially our first responders. We remember and pay our respects to all affected, especially those who lost their lives.

Motorists take note: Tomorrow, Friday 9/11/26, expect minor traffic delays to occur periodically between 8:30am and 10:30am for a series of 9/11 memorial processions across the Sagadahoc bridge (RT 1) between Bath and Woolwich. Expect a larger pedestrian presence along the bridge supporting this event. Use caution and slow down in this area.

US Flags will be at half staff tomorrow.

Bath's Community Involvement Day is Oct 3. This event showcases area organizations, local volunteer efforts, and volunteer opportunities.

Bath PD has a volunteer program, formerly known as Volunteers in Policing (VIPS). We'll have information at Community Involvement Day if you're interested in this program.

The Bath Police Department is always in possession of various found items. Such items include, but are not limited to, purses, wallets, cell phones, jewelry, keys, bicycles, chainsaws, ice augers, hearing aids, and much more. If it can be lost, we've had it.

Street closure notice:

Union Street, between Middle and Washington Streets, will be closed to thru traffic beginning as early as tomorrow, 9/2/26, and expected to last until 9/11/26. It will be open during the Labor day weekend.

This is for Crooker Construction to install storm drains as part of BIW's parking lot project.

Residents of Union St will be allowed access to their driveways during this project. No parking will be allowed on the street in the work area.

The Bath Police Department is proud to announce that Deputy Chief Michelle Small has been selected as the Maine State L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) Instructor of the Year!

This well-deserved honor recognizes Deputy Chief Small’s dedication to the students, schools, and communities she serves. Through L.E.A.D., she has built meaningful relationships with young people while helping empower them to make positive choices, develop important life skills, and make healthy decisions.

We are incredibly proud of the passion and commitment that all of our L.E.A.D. instructors bring to the classroom and to the youth of our community. This recognition is a reflection not only of her work, but of the importance of investing in prevention and building strong relationships between law enforcement and the young people we serve.

We are extremely excited to announce that L.E.A.D. will be back in our schools this year! Our instructors will once again be in the classrooms working alongside students at our local schools, continuing this important prevention program and helping our young people build the skills they need to succeed.

You may have seen some of these signs posted yesterday, as well as some recent traffic calming measures installed near our schools. The school year begins next week and we want to remind drivers to use extra caution and watch for students walking, biking, or riding to school. This means paying extra attention, watching your speed, and no handheld cell phone use. Our patrol officers will be out conducting extra traffic enforcement.

Parents, please remind your children about the safe ways to walk or bike to school. Please be aware of what level e-bike is appropriate for your child (basically, class 1 only as class 2 and 3 require 16yr or up age limit). Bicyclists must follow the same rules of the road as motorists and, if under age 16, must wear a helmet.

There are also several roads in Bath currently undergoing some level of road or utility construction/repair that may affect normal traffic. We will do our best to inform everyone of these projects and any changes ahead of time, but prepare for detours or delays at times.

With one of our detective's recent retirement, we are looking for a new officer to fill our ranks. We're currently hiring for a full-time Patrol Officer and also still looking for a part-time school crossing guard for the High and Richardson St intersection.
