Today was a day of celebration for Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office as we welcomed our two newest graduates from the 49th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Deputy Tyson Fait was pinned by his son, while Deputy Matthew Verrill was pinned by his wife Hannah. It was an especially good day for Deputy Verrill as he was officially sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff.

Deputy Fait and Deputy Verrill endured an 18-week residential training program that prepared them to be the best trained law enforcement officers in the State. We celebrate their accomplishments and welcome them to our ranks.

Over the past few days, motorist across the State of Maine have seen police officers running along the byways and highways of local communities. They are doing so as part of the Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run (for Special Olympics). These officers and deputies are the Gradians of the Flame for the Maine Special Olympics. Members of the Sagadahoc County law enforcement community take pride in participating in this annual event and were excited to honor Olympians by carrying the torch across Sagadahoc County.

"We do not know them all, but we owe them all." ~ Unknown

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We also reflect with gratitude, humility, and respect for those who protect the nation that we call home.

This week, we give pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. During National Law Enforcement Memorial Week, we honor their courage, their commitment, and the legacy they leave behind. This year has been particularly notable with the tragic death of Maine State Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts.

Yesterday, members of the Maine law enforcement family gathered in Augusta to honor our fallen heroes. While this ceremony marked the addition of a name to the wall, little did we know that at time, another name will need to be added.

The members of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office express our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and fellow members of the Maine Warden Service.
