Today your Bath Township Firefighters and family members participated in the annual Ovid Middlebury Fire Dept. Walk for the Red 5K. We walked in full turnout gear to support and honor our fellow brothers and sisters along with Neighbors United 140.

Founded in 2019 by firefighter Joe Warne, the initiative is organized by Neighbors United to provide financial assistance to those facing the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths.

We are proud to support this mission and honored to walk for such an important cause. Thank you Ovid Middlebury Fire Department for hosting each year. ❤️🚒

This morning BTFD received a private call at the station for reports of some ducklings falling into a storm drain. We arrived to find chirping from ducklings throughout the drain system. Our guys got to work quickly to get them out. We retrieved all 9(!!) babies and returned them to their mama who was watching very anxiously watching and waiting. All 9 ducklings were unharmed and happy to be back with their mama! 🚒🦆🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥🐥

This past weekend BTFD trained to respond to one of the most unpredictable and dangerous emergencies we may face — an ice rescue. 🛟

When someone falls into freezing water, time, temperature, and unstable conditions are all working against them. That’s why we train in specialized cold-water suits, using rope systems and rescue sleds, with a coordinated plan designed to keep everyone safe — including the rescuers. 🦺

We practice moving low and slow across weak ice to distribute weight, maintaining constant communication, performing self-rescue techniques, and packaging victims quickly to get them out of below 32-degree water fast.

It might look like winter shenanigans from the shoreline, but every movement is deliberate. Cold water. Clear heads. Serious work with a serious purpose. ❄️

🚨IMPORTANT NOTICE🚨

Upon our Ice Rescue Instructor inspecting the ice on Park Lake, it has been determined ice conditions are rapidly deteriorating due to the warmer weather. All ice activities should be stopped/avoided at this time. Please remember to never judge the strength of ice based on appearance or thickness alone. Please stay safe, stay off of all bodies of water and enjoy this warmer weather we are having!
