Hey Neighbors! We currently have a garbage truck that is down and has caused delays in regular pick up inside the city limits. Our mechanics are working hard to get it repaired but we are at the mercy of parts being delivered. Please be patient as we try to fix the problem.

Your residential trash will most likely not be picked up at the normal time. Please leave your cans by the curb and our guys will get them as quickly as possible. If your normal day was yesterday, they will circle back around and get that as soon as they can.

We appreciate your understanding! Please feel free to share with your friends and neighbors as well!!

For the third year in a row, USA Today has named Batesville one of the Best Small Towns in the South — and now our community has the opportunity to claim the top spot.

Voting is open now through March 30, and supporters can vote once per day as Batesville competes against ten other Southern communities for the No. 1 ranking.

This latest honor builds on a growing list of recognitions. Batesville has previously been named a Top 25 City by USA Today and earned Best Small Town in the South honors in both 2024 and 2025. The community has also been recognized as a Trendsetter City by Arkansas Business, named one of the Best Places to Raise a Family in Arkansas by HomeSnacks, and selected as a Community of the Year finalist by Community Playmaker in 2025.

Batesville’s recognition extends beyond rankings. Our community is home to award-winning schools, innovative locally owned businesses, and a growing network of parks, trails, and public spaces that enhance recreation and quality of life for families.

Downtown Batesville continues to thrive under the leadership of Main Street Batesville, earning statewide awards for historic preservation, economic vitality, and community-driven placemaking. The city has also earned statewide recognition as the Christmas Capital of Arkansas®, named the Ozark Gateway Region’s Festival of the Year and a finalist for Attraction of the Year by the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism.

Recent groundbreaking ceremonies further underscore the city’s forward momentum, including a $25 million investment in recreation and a $110 million investment in water infrastructure improvements — transformational projects designed to support long-term growth without increasing taxes.

Tourism continues to fuel Batesville’s growth and visibility. In 2025, more than 850,000 visitors traveled to Batesville, with 39 percent coming from out of state and representing all 50 states. Those visitors generated more than $450 million in economic impact for the local economy.

Residents and supporters are encouraged to vote daily through March 30 to help Batesville claim the top spot.

We don’t have many pictures today but here is one of the hill beside the mayor’s house. He said that several families have enjoyed sledding there today. Feel free to drop your snow fun and sledding pictures in the comments below!

As always, use caution if you have to be out! Stay safe and stay warm neighbors!

Commercial garbage will be picked up as conditions improve and they can reach businesses. We will update on residential pick up inside the city, as those decisions are made.

Please stay in and stay warm when possible. If you have to be out and about, please allow extra drive time. If you see a city, county or state plow truck, be considerate and let them through. They are trying to clear as many streets, roads and highways as they can.

Here are a couple of pictures of our guys out plowing today.

City of Batesville Employees are working hard today to prepare for the winter weather that will move in later tonight. The guys have been making the brine and pretreating the city streets ahead of the weather. They have also got the barricades ready for Boswell Street and the Baja and will put those in place once they are ready for sledding! ❄️☃️🛷
Please watch out for these guys over the next few days as they try to keep our city streets passable. Allow them the room they need and give them some grace as they do the best they can to clear city streets and still be able to go home to their families at the end of the day.
Stay safe, stay warm and use extreme caution if you must travel.
