📜 Uncovering Our Roots: Step Back in Time at the Living History Experience
🕰️Discover the secrets of our local heritage at the upcoming Living History experience, a highlight of the Town of Batesburg-Leesville anniversary celebrations. This community event brings history off the pages and into our neighborhood, offering an immersive look at the foundational stories, songs, and struggles that shaped our town. Whether you are a lifelong history buff or looking for an educational family outing, this gathering has something to spark your curiosity!
🗣️ Keynote History Talk: Tales of Our Town
We are honored to welcome J.R. Fennell, the director of the Lexington County Museum. Mr. Fennell will deliver a captivating keynote presentation uncovering local town lore and the strategic Revolutionary War battles and skirmishes that unfolded right in our backyard ⚔️. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how our local geographic landmarks connect to the broader birth of the nation.
🎭 Interactive Storytelling & Historic Songs
History comes alive through performance as Sara Damewood takes the stage for two unique, multi-generational presentations:
🪙 "A Penny's Worth": A historical tall tale for both children and adults that journeys into America's economic past to see exactly what a single penny could buy across different eras.
🎶 Revolutionary War Sing-A-Long: An interactive showcase of period-accurate music where the audience is invited to learn and sing the tunes that inspired early American soldiers.
🏛️ Museum Pop-Ups
Attendees are encouraged to explore two temporary historical museums and galleries explicitly set up for this event:
🍽️ The Cafeteria: Transformed into a temporary local history museum featuring regional artifacts, community archives, and physical snapshots of our shared heritage. This is compliments of the Lexington County Museum.
🖼️ The Haynes Auditorium Foyer: Hosting a curated visual history presentation filled with compelling photographs, documents, artifacts and illustrations tracking our town's evolution.📅
