June is National Reunification Month, but what does reunification mean for a CASA Volunteer?
Reunification is the GOAL! 🥰
When a child has experienced abuse and neglect and has been removed for their safety, the hope is that the family will be lifted up with the support of all the working partners on the case to rebuild what has been broken. To surround them with counsel, services, healthy support, and connection with the people who will encourage them toward healing and wholeness. ✨
In 2025, 9 of the 41 children whose cases we helped close with permanency were reunified with their family of origin. CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties always prioritizes helping families reunite when it's safe and in a child's best interest. If reunification isn't possible, we turn to extended family or family friends for permanent placement, with the goal of keeping children connected to their community, culture, and heritage.
📣Our CASA Program endeavors to provide trained volunteer advocates in all abuse and neglect foster care cases assigned by the courts. CASA Volunteers are screened and highly trained and then appointed by judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interests in the child protection system. 📅Our next CASA Volunteer Training Session will be in September 2026.
